James the elder was the brother of John, they were the sons of Zebedee, also known as the sons of thunder they were both fishermen along with Andrew and Peter.

James was dragged before Herod and beheaded (cf.

Acts 12:2).

En route to his execution, James was able to convert and baptize the scribe who had delivered him to Herod; this man, Josias, was also beheaded with James.
