12 A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
In the 1500’s there was a pirate named Sir Martin Frobisher who was hired by the english govt. to go acquire gold from the new world (The Americas) when he arrived to find this gold and bring it back home to England he came upon great amounts of this new gold.
He brought it back and the Royals were so pleased that they sent him back with even more resources and ships! He returned this time with 1500 Tons of the new gold!
When they began melting the gold down it was quickly turning into a stone like substances. Only to find out that what appeared to be gold was only fools gold.
Today we are going to look at what makes a fool a fool based on scripture.
1. A fool never does a full investigation of the situation. The fool only moves based on what they feel.
15 If someone puts up security for a stranger, he will suffer for it, but the one who hates such agreements is protected.
Before you agree to anything... inspect everything!
Many want to receive the blessings of God, but not realizing God can never go against his Word.
2. A fool’s pride will never allow them to ask for insight on a situation.
22 Without good advice everything goes wrong— it takes careful planning for things to go right.
Tell the story of people offering you opportunities to do business with them. (Studio back in the day, when the guy tried to get me. Trucking deal with people, etc…)
2 heads are better then one, 3 is unbreakable. Your strength is in all the angles you don’t see, but the others do.
People who don’t show you success without you. Can’t bring success with you.
3. You can’t find success without putting in the real work.
13 If you spend your time sleeping, you will be poor. Keep busy and you will have plenty to eat.
Too many people think it’s suppose to be given to them. When the reality of it is, where is it coming from to give it to you? Work! Somebody has to work!
11 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.
In other words until people change there mindset they will be without. What is your mindset?
15 Some of us are so lazy that we won’t lift a hand to feed ourselves.
The idea behind this proverb is one of comedy about lazy people, but it’s also factual with the idea that people start something but are too lazy to complete it.
6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise!
7 Though they have no prince or governor or ruler to make them work,
8 they labor hard all summer, gathering food for the winter.
9 But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep? When will you wake up?
10 A little extra sleep, a little more slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
11 then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit; scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.
Stop making excuses that’s the bottom line! Tell yourself enough is enough!
13 The lazy person claims, “There’s a lion out there! If I go outside, I might be killed!”
That’s how ridiculous the excuses of a lazy person are.
4. Pride will always put you in a precarious position. Causing you to fail.
18 Pride leads to destruction; a proud attitude brings ruin.
Tell the story of Mario Lake before prison and now in prison.
5 Everyone with a proud heart is detestable to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.
Talk about how you now hear a new Mario now just in a matter of months. God will break you if you are His child. Be prepared to be broken.
2 Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Paul was one who set a perfect example of what it means to learn to be humble.
7 even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud.
8 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.
9 Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
10 That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Humility will always help lift you higher! Pride will always put you in prison.
5. Not fearing the Lord follows you in failure.
10 Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
The Moody Bible Commentary b. Interlude (9:7–12)
Reiterating the theme verse of Proverbs, this verse shows the inextricable connection between wisdom and worship (see 1:7). The fear of the LORD is here equated with the knowledge of the Holy One. Those who worship and know the Lord submit to His authority and consequently grow in wisdom and righteousness.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
We are in a generation now that wants to elevate themselves above God, they say they are God now!
25 If you punish a mocker, the simpleminded will learn a lesson; if you correct the wise, they will be all the wiser.
11 If you punish a mocker, the simpleminded become wise; if you instruct the wise, they will be all the wiser.
Better to not have understanding and can grow from it (Simpleminded) then to be one who is hardened in his heart (Mocker)
New Living Translation Study Bible Chapter 1
Three main words in Proverbs describe those who lack God’s wisdom. Simpletons (Hebrew pethim) have not hardened themselves against God’s wisdom and are most open to correction (see 1:4). Fools (Hebrew kesilim) have heard God’s wisdom but resist it. Mockers (Hebrew latsonim) not only resist wisdom but ridicule it.
1 Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; not one of them does good!
