· 7 viewsJesus has just clearly claimed that He is God (v17). He continues with colossal claims of His Deity so there is no mistaking who He is. Nobody does what Jesus does; no-one is worthy like Jesus; no-one has the words of life like Jesus; no-one holds the keys to eternity like Jesus.

REFLECTION: Daniel 7:9-10
9 “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire. 10 A stream of fire issued and came out from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.
13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

LET’S PRAY:
Lord, you have caused all of the Holy Scriptures to be written for our learning—grant us that we may in such a way hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them;
that by patience and comfort of your holy Word,
we may embrace and hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTION:
Last week we finished up with the religious leaders wanting to kill Jesus. He intentionally performed a miracle on the Sabbath. He knew exactly what he was doing.
He healed someone who didn’t ask for it, and had no faith to offer initially.
When confronted by the religious leaders, He claimed He was equal with God.
One writer puts it plainly, “their response was wrong, but their understanding was not.”

You may have seen those “nobody” memes on social media. They start with the word “nobody”, then they’ll say, “middle school me” and describe something weird.
Nobody:
Middle School Lunch Lady: “go grab a fruit and a milk, honey.”
I’m telling you, you could do one with just Jesus. Nobody…literally no one…then post Jesus response here to the threat of death from the religious leaders.
Jesus Christ says, “I’m equal with God!”
He was either God or the greatest blasphemer that ever opened his mouth.
Deniers / Haters of God claim:
“Jesus was just a wonderful human teacher,”
“He was an elevated human who fanned the flame.”
“Well, He was a great religious hero.”
“He was a humanitarian who taught us how to love.”
NO! Jesus of Nazareth was either the Son of God - the Christ or He was Antichrist.
That’s it!
And don’t lead with “He was a good teacher.”
Good teachers don’t claim to be God.
Blasphemers do. And God does.
There’s no middle ground.
NOBODY HAS AUTHORITY LIKE JESUS - LOOK AT WHAT HE DOES

19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel. 21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.
Jesus states that He and the Father are so connected…so “a part of each other” that they work in tandem, in harmony.
The Son is in no way independent of or in rebellion against the Father.
Their relationship is one of continuous love.
The Son is not doing simply a part of God’s will; He has a full disclosure of all the Father’s works.
By the Father, the Son will do even more amazing works than physical healings
This sounds like the TRINITY! Yes!
Here is what we say about that as a church family:
We believe that God eternally exists in three persons — the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit — and that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections, and worthy of precisely the same worship, confidence, and obedience.
Jesus has the authority to GIVE LIFE (21) and Jesus has the authority to judge men (22) RIGHTLY!
The colossal claim Jesus sets before us is that he is equal with the Father.
Even if we have already embraced this truth, we must repeatedly affirm it.
We must daily appropriate the reality that Jesus is God!
He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
That must be a constant reality in our lives. We as believers must affirm who Jesus Christ is. He is supreme.
To unbelievers he comes with the same claim—
that he is King of kings and Lord of lords——
and he will assert that for all time and eternity.
his colossal claim continually confronts all mankind, and it demands a response.
NOBODY DESERVES HONOR LIKE JESUS - LOOK AT WHO HE IS!

22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
The Bible says in Isaiah 48:11,
11 For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.
This is rock solid evidence that Jesus Christ is deity!
He is looking these religious leaders square in the eyes and saying, you don’t honor God without honoring me.
You may have the appearance of being good, upstanding men of the faith…you might be pillars of morality, but if you don’t honor me, you are rebelling against God.
Jesus Christ is the object of our worship.
In this pluralistic society that we live in…we are constantly told that all religions are equal.
While this is a natural byproduct of the religious freedom that we enjoy in this nation…it is an outworking of the Age of Reason and Enlightenment.
We take our orders and directions from a higher authority. (HEBREW NATIONAL HOTDOGS)
God’s Word is clear: any system of worship that does not honor Jesus Christ as the true God is from hell. It’s a lie of Satan.
3 “You shall have no other gods before me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.
8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. 9 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. 10 For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! 7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice,
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty! Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations! 4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”
Only the true God is worthy of true worship!
And the Bible is clear that the only way to worship Him is through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
John Calvin’s words, written 450 years ago, are still true and timely:
Muslims and Jews give the God they worship beautiful and magnificent titles. However, we should remember that whenever God’s name is separated from Christ, it is nothing more than empty imagination. (John, 129)
Nobody is like Jesus! Only He can satisfy what you were made for.
Child of God - believer on Jesus - fellow disciple…beware the temptation to put our affection on lesser things...
15 I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.
God will not give His glory to another…yet he gives it to Jesus!
9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
There is NOBODY LIKE JESUS - as you HIM you will be strengthened in your own life and walk.
Submit to Him and His WORD…Embrace the incredible Freedom we have in Him to be who He created us to be:
men, women, boys, and girls who are not ashamed of the Gospel...
…who rejoice because our name is written in Heaven
…who love others selflessly at great cost
…who are in a constant state of wonder at His goodness in every season!
How do we honor Him? Every morning...
WORSHIP HIM (WITH ALL YOUR HEART, MIND, SOUL, AND STRENGTH) Not just your Bible reading.
DIE TO SELF (Use confessional prayers, Scripture, or just acknowledge your weaknesses to get in the way of what He wants to do today…ask the LORD to make MUCH LESS OF YOU TODAY)
SURRENDER TO THE LEADERSHIP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT (give Him the keys to your decision making, thought life, conversations, spending, all of it)
ASK THE LORD TO GIVE YOU “JOY” IN EVERYTHING!
NOBODY HAS POWER LIKE JESUS - LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS!
ALL POWER!
ALL POWER!
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. 25 “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.
Jesus calls the dead to life!
He speaks of SPIRITUAL and PHYSICAL realms here.
I call sinners from their dead ways to the new and living way!
Here is a great question for all of us to consider: ARE YOU ALIVE IN CHRIST?
(EVIDENCE OF LIFE - EMS - PULSE / BREATHING)
If so, there will be fruit…you will behave like a person who is ALIVE TO CHRIST AND DEAD TO SIN!
You will no longer be a slave to sin.
Each day you walk with Jesus, you will grow to love what God loves more and more…and begin to reject those things that pull you away from Him!
If we profess to follow Christ, but POSESS a life that is indistinguishable from those who don’t…something is off (and it’s not GOD).
His authority is absolute - He doesn’t make mistakes.
THAT’S THE SPIRITUAL LIFE THAT HE CALLS US TO! Nobody can do that but Jesus.
BUT THE PHYSICAL RESURRECTION SHOWS UP in our next passage...
THERE IS NOBODY LIKE JESUS:
NOBODY HAS AUTHORITY LIKE JESUS - LOOK AT WHAT HE DOES!
NOBODY DESERVES HONOR LIKE JESUS - LOOK AT WHO HE IS!
NOBODY HAS POWER LIKE JESUS - LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS!
NOBODY HOLDS ETERNITY LIKE JESUS - ONE DAY, WE’LL STAND BEFORE HIM!

27 And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. 28 Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
THERE IS THAT SECOND RESURRECTION THAT WE MENTIONED EARLIER.
ILLUSTRATION:

The story has been told of a man who was caught and taken to court because he had stolen a loaf of bread.
When the judge investigated, he found out that the man had no job, and his family was hungry.
He had tried unsuccessfully to get work and finally, to feed his family, he had stolen a loaf of bread.
Although recognizing the extenuating circumstances, the judge said, “I’m sorry, but the law can make no exceptions.
You stole, and therefore I have to punish you. I order you to pay a fine of ten dollars.”
He then continued, “But I want to pay the fine myself.”
He reached into his pocket, pulled out a ten-dollar bill, and handed it to the man.
As soon as the man took the money, the judge said, “Now I also want to remit the fine.”
That is, the man could keep the money.
“Furthermore, I am going to instruct the bailiff to pass around a hat to everyone in this courtroom, and I am fining everyone in this courtroom fifty cents for living in a city where a man has to steal in order to have bread to eat.”
The money was collected and given to the defendant.
This is an excellent example of justice being meted out in full and paid in full—while mercy and grace were also enacted in full measure.
We will all stand before the LORD one day. He will judge perfectly!
For those who are in Christ - that’s the ONLY GOOD THAT WILL MATTER - we will live an everlasting life with the lover of our souls.
For those who are NOT in Christ - it will be an everlasting judgment under the wrath of God for REJECTING HIS DEAR SON - WHO GAVE HIS LIFE FOR YOURS.
THERE IS NOBODY LIKE JESUS - He is the JUDGE who has offered the way of mercy and grace.

How does the believer walk this out?
Where are the areas that you are resisting Christ’s authority in your life?
Ask the LORD to point you to new ways to honor Him in your relationships, in the way you communicate with others (in-person, texting, messaging, talking on the phone).
Examine your participation in the local church. Does your worship and service give witness to the fact that the LORD is worthy!?
ETERNITY with Christ should bring great joy and comfort to us - a peace that passes understanding. It should also light a fire underneath us to tell everyone we can…THERE IS NOBODY LIKE JESUS!
