Certain Scoffers
We have been going through Jude.
These people are grumblers and fault-finders who go wherever their desires lead them, and they give bombastic speeches, enchanting folks for their own gain.
We have been spending a great deal of time with certain people
Compared to Cain, Balaam, Korah
Rebellions, dangerous reefs, waterless clouds
Wayward stars
Enoch
Grumblers, fault finders, led by desire
Bombastic speeches, enchanting people for gain
We, all of us have experienced people who try to tell us we are wrong.
We have experienced the grumblers, fault finders, and enchanters
They are everywhere it seems.
But there is a final group that Jude will concentrate on that commands our action
What do we do when our beliefs are challenged?
Do we run away
Do we fight
Do we argue
Some will just say, “well, that is how it is.” and move on
And what about the people who are doing it?
Do you ever want them to go away
Do you want to make them stop
Do you want to take their voice
But you, dear friends—recall the predictions foretold by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. For they said to you, “At the end of time there will come scoffers, propelled by their own ungodly desires.”
****But you, dear friends ****
Interesting that Jude does not count himself among the apostles.
Instead, he references 2 Peter chapter 3
You get the sense that Peter and Jude knew each other.
****For they said to you...”
Oh, is this verse packed...
End of time
Scoffers
Ungodly desires
So we have a question. Are those who scoff...
Ordinary scoffers or
End time scoffers
There is an entire industry built on “end time”
And their predictions have not quite come true, have they.
That is not to say their warning is invalid.
It is easy to go a bit too far.
What is a scoffer?
One who deceives
One who makes fun
One who rejects
These people are divisive, worldly, devoid of the Spirit.
Cause divisions
Live only naturally
Lack the Spirit of God
So what do we do?
But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit, maintain yourselves in the love of God while anticipating the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that brings eternal life.

It is nice to be counted as a friend of a biblical author and brother of Jesus

**** Maintain yourselves ****
**** While anticipating ****
Sounds so simple, but...
WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE ARE CHALLENGED?
We give our attention to God.
