Joshua 3:1-17 (NASB 2020) 1Then Joshua got up early in the morning; and he and all the sons of Israel set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they spent the night there before they crossed. 2Then at the end of three days the officers went through the midst of the camp;

STUCK IN PHILLY: Woke up early to go to Africa, missed flight, urgent mission, but i was looking at the Liberty Bell
o Joshua 3: Raging river, 7-10 mi. from banks, camped for 3 days/

This was a crucible moment

Every Someday Has a Crucible Moment That Requires A Step of Faith.

Harvard Business Review article: Crucible Leadership—crucible moment

“A crucible is, by definition, a transformative experience through which an individual comes to a new or an altered sense of identity.”

speaking to Top 40 business leaders:
“…we were surprised to find that all of them—young and old—were able to point to intense, often traumatic, always unplanned experiences that had transformed them and had become the sources of their distinctive leadership abilities.”2
Moses had Crucible moments: Pharoah, 10 plagues, Red Sea
Moses' questions: Who am I, what if they, what shall I say (Ex. 3:13)
o You and I/intersection of decision: salvation, marriage
Sarah doesn’t need a boyfriend.
Every someday has a crucible moment
Let’s read about Joshua’s

Joshua 3:1-17 3and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.

4However, there shall be a distance between you and it of about two thousand cubits by measurement. Do not come near it, so that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.”

5Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do miracles among you.”

6And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over ahead of the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people.

Pray.

The God of your someday is with you today.

5Then Joshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do miracles among you.”

when we realize that the God who promised our someday is with us today.

Joshua 3:7 Now the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they will know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you.”

God is with Joshua. It’s important to follow leaders who follow God
- 1 Corinthians 11:1, Paul: “Follow my example as I follow the example of Christ.”
God Is with You. I can face anything as long as I know that God is with me.
You’ll know He is with you too.

9Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of the Lord your God.”

10And Joshua said, “By this you will know that the living God is among you, and that He will assuredly drive out from you the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Hivite, the Perizzite, the Girgashite, the Amorite, and the Jebusite.

· God tells them, “Hey, come here, come over for a sec.”
“Not by might, not by power…”
Zechariah 4:6: “Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts.”
 next we take the step...

Someday begins with a step of faith today.

o “Take Another Step”[2]
Joshua could have settled (waterfront)/Israel could have quit, but promise was over the River. Had to trust God.
 Let’s read it.

Joshua 3:14-17 14So when the people set out from their tents to cross the Jordan, with the priests carrying the ark of the covenant before the people,

15and when those who were carrying the ark came up to the Jordan and the feet of the priests carrying the ark stepped down into the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks all the days of harvest),

16then the waters which were flowing down from above stood and rose up in one heap, a great distance away at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those which were flowing down toward the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. So the people crossed opposite Jericho.

17And the priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan while all Israel crossed on dry ground, until all the nation had finished crossing the Jordan.

The Ark represented the presence of God/Not a relic/Priests had to be first/They all crossed
Inside the Ark: TEN Cs/AARON’S ROD (CHALLENGED AARON)/MANNA: BREAD FROM HEAVEN - AUTHORITY)/ Represent God’s presence
Stepping Into Your Someday:
· Follow God’s Word-(10 Com/safeguard ag. emotionalism/Zech. v.
· Follow His authority. (Aaron’s Rod) - Covering/ Ps. Allen/Abuse/Watch over souls - Heb. 13:17
· Follow His provision. (Jar of Manna) - Provision/Journey Center/
· Step Out In Faith.
Joshua had done his part, so God did His.

Joshua 4:14 (NASB) 14On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, so that they revered him, just as they had revered Moses all the days of his life.

God wanted them to remember.
I’ll close with this…

The God who was with you yesterday will be with you again in your someday.

History with God: Hearken to memories of faithfulness/Joshua gave interesting command.

Joshua 4:5-7 (NASB 2020) 5 and Joshua said to them, “Cross again to the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

6 This shall be a sign among you; when your children ask later, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

7 then you shall say to them, ‘That the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.’ So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.”

· stones from the Jordan/more battles & trials to come, but stones of remembrance
What Do These Stones Mean To You?/raging river before us/mi. wide/millions of us/we wandered
slaves/forefathers had a promise/when i look at these stones...
· Yes, we still had battles to fight, but if we ever questioned how MIGHTY He is/... I’ll tell you what these stones mean to me, son
- And if He kept His promises to us, you can count on it that He’ll keep His promises to you too!
Application
· As you think about your “someday,” remember: the God of yesterday is “already there.”
