Revelation 22:6 ESV
And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”
When we look at the world we have 2 options:
WE can trust the Word of Man
We can trust the Word of God.
Those are your options.
Now we know by scripture that Gods word is True. It is reliable.
What we have had for all time is people and ultimately the enemy doubting the Word of God.
Evolution was not invented by Charles Darwin. At least not in the sense that all things came about by a natural process. that idea has long been in the hearts of man as we worked to justify our Sin.
Evolution isn’t the problem. the heart of man is. There is no fact that anyone could give that could possibly move a nonbeliever into belief if they choose to remain in doubt. IE you cannot argue mankind into heaven.
That being said I do believe we as believers should be prepared to make a defense of our faith. Dinosaurs are an avenue through which we can make that case. Because what we have been taught isn’t the whole truth.
Last week in River City Kids, the kids came up with some good questions that I would like to address this morning.

When did the Dinosaurs die?

Gap-Creationism

to answer this question I think we need to first ask when did the dinosaurs live? A popular belief among Christians is that they lived millions of years ago in between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2.
Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Notice no time reference is given here.
Genesis 1:2 ESV
The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
The idea here is that there is an unknown time between the verses, and that the dinosaurs would have lived during this pre days of creation period.
Problems with this theory.
Tons of Evidence that humans and dinosaurs walked together.
It gets the days of creation out of order.
In a gap creation theory, the belief is in a fully functional universe; but it is isn’t until day 4 that God creates the stars, the sun, and the moon.
I am leary of Christians attempting to fit in with modern science, which this theory attempts to do.
Scientists say there have been millions of years, lets figure how to twist the bible into saying that.
Scientists say a lot that that ends up not being true.
Just because a guy in a lab coat makes a proclamation. that should have no bearing our faith.
Carbon and radiometric dating are very flawed and highly inaccurate.
The Bones of things that are “very old are buried next to things that are not.
Or in the case of Dinosaur bones, there is still a lot of blood and organic material within the bones.

Notice the Paleontologists are shocked because organic material like this is only believed to last a few thousand years. If fossilized.
But here we have one. 80 Million years old with red blood cells. How is that possible? Perhaps they aren't as old as the scientists think.

Did Dinosaurs and man walk together?

There is much evidence that dinosaurs and Man walked together.
Genesis 1:24 ESV
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.
So we know that on Day 6 of Creation god made both the dinosaurs and humans.
So from roughly 4000 BC to 2348 BC dinosaurs and humans would have lived together. Roughly 1650 Years
Then the Flood comes and wipes out not only humans but plants and animals and dinosaurs and everything that lived.

Were there Dinosaurs on the Ark?

Genesis 6:18–20 ESV
But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive.
Dinosaurs would have been on the Ark with Noah.
Now when we say say dinosaurs we are not talking species but kinds. there is a difference in kind. Today we often think of Species. Noah must have brought every kind of dog and cat. Well no. He brought a dog pair, and a cat pair.
There are roughly 50 to 80 different dinosaur kinds that would have been on the ark.
When we get to the flood we will go into more detail on how this worked. But for now Noah took 100 dinosaurs on the Ark.
So the Flood is over.

how did the Dinosaurs Die?

So the Flood is over and everything has changed. The Continents are torn apart. the ground is wet and muddy. The Earth is not what it was. Everything has changed. for both animals and humans. We dive deeper into these changes at a later date but some changes to the earth that would have affected Dinosaurs. the plants that they ate prior to the flood are no long accessible or they are flat out extinct. so their food supply shrunk, God then gave men permission to eat the animals.
Genesis 9:1–2 ESV
And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every bird of the heavens, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea. Into your hand they are delivered.
So man would have hunted Dinosaurs for food and defense reasons. Further making it hard for them to survive in this new world.

Ice Age

It is believed that the Ice ages that we see the remnants of occured shortly after the flood while the Earth was working to regain its atmospheric equilibrium. We will talk the Ice age at a later date as well.
But the Ice age would have narrowed the grazing lands for these dinosaurs.
But we do have evidence in Scripture that man walked with Dinosaurs after the flood. In Job God in his rebuke of job illustrates 2 animals that highly resemble Dinosaurs.

Behemoth

Job 40:15–24 ESV
“Behold, Behemoth, which I made as I made you; he eats grass like an ox. Behold, his strength in his loins, and his power in the muscles of his belly. He makes his tail stiff like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are knit together. His bones are tubes of bronze, his limbs like bars of iron. “He is the first of the works of God; let him who made him bring near his sword! For the mountains yield food for him where all the wild beasts play. Under the lotus plants he lies, in the shelter of the reeds and in the marsh. For his shade the lotus trees cover him; the willows of the brook surround him. Behold, if the river is turbulent he is not frightened; he is confident though Jordan rushes against his mouth. Can one take him by his eyes, or pierce his nose with a snare?

Leviathan

Job 41:1–11 ESV
“Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook or press down his tongue with a cord? Can you put a rope in his nose or pierce his jaw with a hook? Will he make many pleas to you? Will he speak to you soft words? Will he make a covenant with you to take him for your servant forever? Will you play with him as with a bird, or will you put him on a leash for your girls? Will traders bargain over him? Will they divide him up among the merchants? Can you fill his skin with harpoons or his head with fishing spears? Lay your hands on him; remember the battle—you will not do it again! Behold, the hope of a man is false; he is laid low even at the sight of him. No one is so fierce that he dares to stir him up. Who then is he who can stand before me? Who has first given to me, that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine.
God lays out these awesome creatures, both of who are now extinct.
