Romans 15:14–19 LSB
14 But I myself am also convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, having been filled with all knowledge and being able also to admonish one another. 15 But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me by God 16 for me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, having been sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 Therefore in Christ Jesus I have reason for boasting in things pertaining to God. 18 For I will not be bold to speak of anything except what Christ has brought about through me, leading to the obedience of the Gentiles by word and deed, 19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit; so that from Jerusalem and all around as far as Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.
Romans 15:14 LSB
14 But I myself am also convinced about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, having been filled with all knowledge and being able also to admonish one another.
2 Thessalonians 1:11 LSB
11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill all your good pleasure for goodness and the work of faith with power,
Admonish: (Neutheteo) to admonish, to warn, to instruct
What knowledge?
Instruct in what?
The glorious gospel of Jesus Christ
Isaiah 42:6–7 LSB
6 “I am Yahweh, I have called You in righteousness; I will also take hold of You by the hand and guard You, And I will give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the nations, 7 To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who inhabit darkness from the prison.
Isaiah 49:6 LSB
6 He says, “It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob and to cause the preserved ones of Israel to return; I will also give You as a light of the nations So that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth.”
Isaiah 60:1–3 LSB
1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, And the glory of Yahweh has risen upon you. 2 “For behold, darkness will cover the earth And dense gloom the peoples; But Yahweh will rise upon you, And His glory will appear upon you. 3 “Nations will come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
After the promise of the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, the church exploded onto the scene.
Within 300 years it became the church of the state.
The gospel of Jesus went out into the world and has been marching on ever since, generation after generation.
Matthew 5:14–16 LSB
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
God wants us to shine the light of the gospel, not a perverted light, but the true, full light of His truth.
Romans 10:14–15 LSB
14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? 15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PROCLAIM GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS!”
What is the true gospel?
Paul’s conversion
Acts 26:16–20 LSB
16 ‘But rise up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a servant and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17 rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’ 19 “So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but kept declaring both to those of Damascus first, and also at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, practicing deeds appropriate to repentance.
Jesus’ first point of preaching:
Matthew 4:17 LSB
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Repentance is the path to the door of salvation.
It is the only path to the door of salvation.
John 10:9 LSB
9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
To get to the door, Jesus, one must enter on the path of repentance.
John 10:1–2 LSB
1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2 “But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep.
So many want to find an easier path to the door of salvation.
If we just love people and smother them with kindness they will melt before the Lord.
If people are confronted with the negative first, they might reject Jesus altogether.
It is better to build a “safe” place for people so that they stay in it until finally coming around to surrender to Jesus.
Only when a person hears the gospel around 15 times do they finally accept Jesus as Lord and savior.
Could it be we see so many being saved, yet going on to live a wretched life because they entered on the wrong path?
Repentance
John 16:8 LSB
8 “And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment;
John 6:44 LSB
44 “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.
John 6:65 LSB
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
John 6:37 LSB
37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out.
YES WE SHOULD CONSISTENTLY PREACH TO THE UNSAVED
NO, it is not dependent on how many times we share the gospel!
It is dependent on the power of God moving on a person to regenerate them to spiritual life so they can understand spiritual truth pertaining to conviction of sin, righteousness, and the coming judgment.
It is by God’s choosing and in God’s time for each and every believer before us, here now, and in the future.
Our job is to preach to whole gospel to those around us so they can be saved.
Eph 2 as a closing text of salvation.
verse 1-10
