Good morning and welcome to CCC. It is so wonderful to have each of you with us both here in person and on our live stream.
This morning we continue on with our The God That sermon series with The God That Promises. We serve a wonderful loving Father. His Word is full of wonderful promises and I would be lying if I said we were going to explore all of them or even most of them here this morning but the fact remains that our God is the God that promises.
Let’s Pray
START OBS
I read this past week that there are over 7400 promises from God in the Bible. I did not have time to read the entire Bible and track each promise although that would be a very worthwhile thing to do…more like a year than a week however. But since I didn’t have time I had to take that authors word for it.
That is a lot of promises. If that number is correct, even in the ballpark what a loving Father we serve because He never fails and all His promises come true.
God loves you.
I did however look at 13 different promises this past week, we will not talk about each one but I challenge you to do a search for the promises of God and see where that takes you this week as you study God’s Word in your secret place time
The 1st promise I want to look at is salvation

Romans 10:9-10

__________________________________________

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Salvation is a free gift. You can only obtain it from God through the awakening of the Holy Spirit to your need for Jesus and His blood to be applied to your sin debt.
It is a free gift from God meaning you can’t earn it
You can’t buy it
You can’t do enough good works to deserve it
It is not about an altar or a prayer
Salvation comes only from Jesus and is freely give to all who believe......
Belief is only part of it because even the demons believe and shutter....
Salvation comes from Jesus to all who believe and confess that Jesus is Lord!
This requires submission
This requires humbleness
Because to be saved you must realize you cannot do anything about it
You and I are doomed to hell and eternal separation from God because of our sin
I believe Jesus is the only way to heaven
I believe Jesus died for my sins
I believe God raised Jesus from the dead
I believe that Jesus lives
Because I believe I have confessed and still confess Him as my Lord and Savior
It is about heart not words!
We have seen that belief and confession carried out the past 2 weeks with Sydnee and Mythos being baptized
Letting the world know they belong to Jesus
They believe and confess and are now God’s children Praise God for that!
This is the starting point however not the ending point
Believe + confess = saved!
God’s promises fall into 2 categories.....not that we can categorize God as He is too deep and complex for that but for our understanding this will help I believe
Conditional- You have to do something to obtain the promise
Unconditional- You can’t do anything and the promise always applies
I’m not sure I like those two words, conditional and unconditional, but we are limited by our English language
All of God’s promises are always true and will always be fulfilled
However God loves you
Since God loves you He doesn’t want you to stay at the point of salvation for your entire life
Many in the church today are stuck at salvation
Not me pastor Josh I have been saved and going to church for 20 years.
Awesome. What is your ministry?
I point people to bulletins and go to Sunday School and Church and sometimes I even go to a Bible study during the week
Great what is your ministry?
I tithe
Great you are supposed to tithe, what is your ministry?
I say all of that because God doesn’t want you to be a consumer Christian but a Christian who is focused on Jesus and dedicated to the studying and applying of God’s Word which makes you a Christian who is maturing
That is why some of His promises require action or a particular mindset to receive them
I want to start with a couple unconditional promises....promises that are always in play regardless of what you or I do or say or think

Deuteronomy 31:8

__________________________________________

“And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”
Again unconditional promise
God will never leave you nor forsake you
Always true and because that is true it leads to a mindset
Fear not
Do not be dismayed
If you fear does that change the promise?
If you are dismayed does that change the promise?
No
It means you forgot or don’t know or haven’t applied the promise......you would be stuck at salvation
God doesn’t want His children to be fearful or dismayed

Isaiah 41:10

__________________________________________

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: Be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; Yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Fear not…why? promise I am with you
Be not dismayed.....why? promise I am thy God
Dismayed comes from a Hebrew word meaning depart.....be dim....look away....turn
Dismayed in the Websters 1828 dictionary is a verb that means to break down either by violence or confusion or fear
One is a break down…failure…the other is leaving…taking your ball and going home
We will all be dismayed at different points in our lives
That pastor never came to see me when I was sick
That church doesn’t care about kids....someone should do something
If God really loves why do bad things happen to good people?
Notice fear and dismayed go together one leads to the other and both stem from lack of believing or understanding or applying God’s promises to your life
How many of you are struggling with what direction or path you should take in life?

Psalm 32:8

__________________________________________

“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
God promises to teach you
Instruct you
He promises to guide you with His Own eye!
What a promise.....God will do that for each of His Children
How does God instruct and teach?

I John 2:27

__________________________________________

“But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.”
Now does this mean don’t go to church or Bible studies
Does this mean that you are not to talk about scripture
Nope
Iron sharpens Iron according to the Bible
Where 2 or 3 are gathered in Jesus name He is there according to scripture
No it means the Holy Spirit teaches you…if you learned something today Praise the Holy Spirit not the teacher or preacher or worship leader
Since all that is true
You have no reason to depart from God or to break down or have a failure because no matter what is going on around you God is directing your steps
God is with you
God is thy God
He will strengthen you
He will help you
He will uphold you
Notice He won’t take away trials and tribulations
He won’t take away struggles and problems but He will direct you
He will strengthen you
He will help you and uphold you
He is the God that promises
Now let’s look at some conditional promises
Most people today agree this world is not a good place
Hate
Anger
Wrath
Violence
Terror
Satan
Selfishness
Greed
Pride
These are all common place today
2023
Right here in America and around the world

II Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
God promises to heal your land.....now remember your idea of heal and God’s idea of heal are more than likely completely different
How many times do we see someone pass away after a battle with cancer or some other illness and think that they just died......God healed them....He took them home
God’s healing of the land will look different than yours
God promises to heal IF…conditional....requires action on your part to receive the promise of healing
If you humble yourselves
If you seek His face
If you turn from your wicked ways
I want to chase a rabbit for a minute
I am still working through this with God and the Holy Spirit but turn from your wicked ways
Anything not of God
By God
For God
From God is wicked
When that person cuts you off in traffic....do you respond in a wicked way anger…gesture…language or do you respond in a godly way?
When someone confronts you about a sin or corrects your behavior or mindset how do you respond?
When evil comes on your TV or radio or social media how do you respond?
Turn from your wicked ways…turn to God…pray and Seek His face!

Psalm 91:1

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Secret place
Secret time
Not visit for a little while
Not when you can spare time
Not once a week
DWELL!
That is the condition to be near to God
You must dwell in the secret place
Dwell in the Word
Dwell in prayer
Dwell in service to build His kingdom
DWELL
Live 24/7 365 and 366 in leap years
No excuses
No justifications
Either you dwell and are close to the Lord or you don’t and are far from God
I asked you earlier How many here this morning have are or will struggle with what steps to take?
Then we looked at who taught you now let’s look at a conditional promise

Psalm 37:23-24

__________________________________________

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: And he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: For the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”
Steps ordered by the Lord
How
Delighting in His way
Church even when the last thing you feel like doing is delight....you must delight in His way
Why look at verse 24
You will fall but not utterly cast down
Wrestlers have a saying....embrace the suck
Training must be hard
It must be physical
It must be exhausting
You have three choices
Quit
Complain
Embrace
Quit
Many choose to quit when they fall
when it sucks
that breaks my heart but it is true
Complain this makes the suck worse for you and everyone around you
It could even cause others to quit....Shame on you!
The more you focus on the hurt
The more you focus on how hard it is
The more it sucks.
Embrace
Delight in His ways
I encourage wrestlers to set goals and when it hurts
when it is hard
when it sucks
Imagine those goals maybe that is going a full match without being pinned or winning a state championship
Imagine that happening and focus on that not the pain
For Christians you know the Lord upholdeth you with His right hand
That allows you to delight in His ways....embrace the suck
You know there is a reason and God has you!
Final promise I want to look at this morning
How many are tired
Maybe you are and continue to be delighting in His way but you are tired
Tired of the world beating on you
Tired of the work to mature in Christ
Tired

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Come to Jesus and find rest
Conditional promise
Need rest
Need peace
COME
Take His yoke
You can’t be half in or a lukewarm Christian with a yoke
Yokes can be heavy some weighing up to 15 pounds
Jesus promises His yoke is easy and His burden is light
Why because He does all the work
Come
Learn
Apply
Walk in the Spirit
You will have trials
You will have tribulations
You will have pain and anguish
You will have grief and loss
You will be lied to
People will lie about you
You will be cheated
You will face health issues
You will lose money
You will be persecuted
All of these increase the closer we get to Jesus’ return
God promised you these things will happen
He promised you will fall short as a Christian
But He also promises you will not be destroyed
He promises you that you can have peace
Jesus is peace
Humble yourself
It is all about God and only through Jesus and the Holy Spirit not you
Pray
Pray for revival and repentance…can’t have one without the other by the way
Pray for revival and repentance in your own life
Pray for revival and repentance in the lives of those around you
Pray that God’s will be done not your will
Seek God’s face
Everything must be about God
For God
From God
Not for a couple hours on a Sunday morning or Monday or Wednesday night
All day everyday
God is the God that promises the question becomes are you one who will respond?
God loves you
He sent His only Son to die for you just to give you the opportunity for salvation and eternal life with Him in heaven
Are you in?
God is the God that promises will you receive those promises today
If you have never accepted Jesus that is where it starts. Come leave here a child of God today
If you are saved are you truly seeking God’s face every moment of every day?
Are you full of fear
Are you dismayed
Come. Give that to God.....apply His promises to your life this morning and leave with your burden lifted and full of peace.
