Introduction
Here is a little bit of historical background:
Paul stayed at Ephesus (the capital of the province of Asia) for about three years — Acts 20:31 “31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”
Christians tradition says that while Paul was under house arrest in Rome, he penned this letter.
Colossians, Philemon and Philippians were probably written during this same imprisonment.
This letter was carried by Tychicus — Ephesians 6:21 “21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:”
It is very probable that both Ephesians and Colossians were delivered at the same time due to Tychicus being the one informing them of Paul’s situation.
Central Message and Purpose:
Re-creation of the human family according to God’s intended original kingdom for humanity.
Jews and Gentiles brought together “in Christ” as ONE people for those who but their trust in Jesus.
While cultures of the known world at that time made distinct differences between people groups, Jesus LEVELED THE GROUND through His sacrificial death on the cross!!!
I want to spend the remainder of our time emphasizing the three main themes of this book. Understanding these themes will definitely help you appreciate them as we work our way through.

1) The Pre-eminence Of Christ

2) The Purpose Of The Holy Spirit

3) The Body Of Christ
