MPT: Peter and his readers were incredibly blessed to live in a time when many of the OT prophecies had been fulfilled.
MPS: We are incredibly blessed to live on this side of the resurrection, and should be amazed by the scope of our salvation.

Our Salvation:

v. 3-5 We praise God for it
v. 6-9 We rejoice in it
v. 10-12 We are amazed by it
Scripture Context: Matthew 13:16-17 “But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.”

Peter is amazed by our salvation because of what we have been saved from.

1. We have been saved from our sins
1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Mark 7:20-23 “And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.””
Sin is a:
Disease
Defilement
Rebellion
Psychological and physiological and spiritually
2. We have been saved from separation from God
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God
Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”
The fact that you can have a close, intimate relationship with God should absolutely floor you every single day.
3. We have been saved from the judgment of God - 1 Peter 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
4. We have been saved from the hostility of Satan - 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Peter is amazed by our salvation because of what we have been saved to.

1. The Safety of the Shepherd - 1 Peter 2:25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
2. The Glory of God 1 Peter 5:4 and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.
3. The Joy of the Lord - 1 Peter 4:13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.

Peter is amazed by our salvation because of the scope of our salvation.

1. The Prophets Searched for It - v. 10 “Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,”
Isaiah 53:5-6 “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” (If you put yourself in Isaiah’s shoes the question that comes after receiving this from the Holy Spirit is, Who & when?)
Peter is amazed by our salvation because it is the culmination of everything he was taught about the Old Testament.
2. Christ Himself Predicted It v. 11 the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
3. The Prophets Revealed It v. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to [e]us they were ministering
4. The Holy Spirit Reveals It v. 12the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven
5. The Angels are Amazed by It v. 12—things which angels desire to look into.
