Discovering Jesus

Our desire in this series will be to help you understand and obtain a deeper understanding of Jesus.
DISCOVERING JESUS - Know Him Deeper and Love Him More
our faith is not a one time event, it MUST be a Deeper Relationship
We must Know Him Deeper
We are His Bride
We are His Church
We are the reason that He paid the FULL Price
I believe that with the Love that Christ showed us that we should
Purse a deep relationship with Christ
It is not doctrine that saves us
nor is it denominational beliefs
nor is it our dedication to religion things
It is CHRIST that saved us
It is Christ who we seek to know deeper and deeper every day.
We will know deeper the Great I AM
My hope is that you will commit to be here every week, or listen in every week so that you don’t miss any part of Discovering Jesus.
Know Him Deeper to Love Him More

Book of John

In Chapter 20--- John himself gives us the purpose of this Book
John 20:30–31 ESV
30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
To display many of the signs that Jesus gave
To believe in Him, as the Christ, as God - to know that the Trinity is real
and to believe that Life is through and IN His name
John is believed to have written this Book later than the others
scholars say that 91% is additional information - add to add value to the other three
To know Him deeper to love Him More
Jesus gave His Life so that you would BELIEVE - SO THAT YOU HAVE LIFE
HISTORY:
Written about 85 AD
Most of the Epistles or letters in the New Testament where written prior to the Gospels
The Christians or followers of the Way knew Jesus because of first hand accounts from their teachers
But as time rolled on the apostles were killed, the original followers were heading to Heaven, and FOR us GOD recorded through authors the documentation of Jesus.
The author of the Book of John is the Apostle John
I don’t doubt that
as we will see this is a very personal letter
The apostle whom Jesus loved
One of the Big Three
a witness to the life of Christ, the ways of Christ, the crucifixion of Christ, the resurrection of Christ and the Transfiguration of Christ to Heaven.
John loved Jesus and Jesus loved John
what a goal and a good reminder
Lets say it...
I Love Jesus and Jesus loves ME

In the Beginning

Genesis 1:1 “1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Revelation 21:6 ESV
6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.
John 1:1 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
In the beginning was the Word
— in the beginning God Created...
The Trinity-- which is the core of our faith is right here in the first FOUR words
Friends — there are many books, denominations, cults that will try to teach you otherwise
But we stand here
JESUS IS GOD, GOD IS JESUS
Here is my brief apologetic for this DOCTRINE
Our sin demanded sacrifice
the sacrifice needed to be perfect, without blemish, without error
Perfect in every respect to overcome the sin and death in the world
God is Perfect
God alone is perfect
therefore the only way death could be conquered is with Perfect, unstained Sacrifice of Christ.
God alone is perfect
Christ has to be God; so that the Sacrifice is perfect
Matt 1:23 “23 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).”
Remember .. and they shall call HIS name Immanuel - GOD WITH US
Look at Genesis again
Genesis 2:17 ESV
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
Death entered the world and Christ defeated death
so that we would have ever lasting life.
Jesus was not created to solve a problem
Jesus was there at the beginning
The beginning normally refers to a time prior to the creation of the world,
Jesus did not come into existence
Jesus alway was, is and will be
for Jesus and God are One.

The Word

Why is Jesus Referred to as THE WORD?
John 1:1 (ESV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
LOGos [log gos] - the Word
it is where our word LOGIC comes from
the Logos would have meant something very specific to a Greek.
it was more than just a “word”
it referred to “the thing that holds it all together”
the reason, or the purpose
Look at Verse 3
the Jewish listener was very familiar with the WORD
as the WORD of GOD was a foundational statement
So there we have a deeper understanding
John was writing in Greek, to a Greek and Jewish audience
BUT it is key to understand that JOHN
was writing to DISPLAY JESUS’ Deity.
Jesus is the first Word and the Last Word
What God is the Word is !
I just had to do a little digging
It refers to a divine revelation
Word means Wisdom --- God is Wisdom, Jesus is God, Jesus is Wisdom
Jesus is the Word
The Word the Word is Christ — the alpha and the omega — the beginning and the end
The Word was GOD
Christ is God
Elohim is a plural form in Hebrew in Genesis
The Word was
The Word with
The Word is
The Word is Jesus
The Word is alive and active in our lives
The Word is with God
The Word was always
The Word is With God
--- This denotes perfect harmony
One is and is One

Creator of All

My biggest takeaway from studying these verses was that WE MUST UNDERSTAND
Jesus was not created to solve a sin problem
Jesus is always
Jesus was there before Genesis
Present and aware of every moment in time, every event
We must embrace that JESUS is the Creator of ALL
Jesus is an active and present part of our Life
every day and in every way
Our prayers are if it is your WILL
it is never if you hear this one, or if my prayer finds you
If our worship is heard
Jesus, Logos, the WORD
is aware of all things at all times
Jesus is not A GOD, or one of the gods
Jesus is GOD the Creator
send to earth to SAVE US
TO PAY THE PRICE
TO SUFFER< DIE< BURIED
and Resurrected
so that we would have Resurrection in our life
We would be restored
Revived
to become
Reverent, Righteous, and Revitalized for HIS GLORY

Light in the Darkness

John closes this paragraph with some great reminders
John 1:4–5 ESV
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
JESUS is the LIGHT and the LIFE
My Friends and My Family
I pray that you leave here today, not exhausted by a weighty or long sermon that made you tired
BUT on FIRE because of the WORD OF GOD penetrated YOUR HEART TODAY
I pray you get what i get during the WEEK of preparation
The energy, and ambition to go out these doors with exciting.
Literally on fire to talk about YOUR JESUS.
Friends
even in a practical way
if i turn the lights out here in this room you will be drawn to the light through that door.
If i could make it completely black in here
if you could not see your hand in front of your face
and i turned on a flashlight you would welcome the light.
if you had to walk around a black dark room you would deeply seek a light
BUT the opposite is NOT true.
To your science friends, your atheist friends
in the dark you can shine a light.
BUT in the light you can not SHINE the dark
you can hide in a pit, to escape the light but the light will find a way to penetrate even the smallest crack
the darkness does not have that power.
So love the LIGHT and LIFE of Christ and know the power that The WORD of God has
John 1:1–5 ESV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Amen
Lets pray
