Four Commands of Resurrection Sunday

Matthew 28:5-7
THE MESSAGE OF RESURECTION SUNDAY
The message of Good Friday is the death of Christ for our sins.
2 Corinthians 5:21 NASB95
He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
What is the message of Resurrection Sunday?
Turn with me to Matt. 28:5-7 and let’s see.
Please Stand in Honor of God’s Word
By way of background, Jesus was dead! He had been betrayed by Judas, forsaken by His disciples, denied by peter, tried by the Sanhedrin, condemned to die Pontius Pilate, crucified at Calvary, buried in the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. On Resurrection Sunday morning women came to the tomb, concerned that they would be able to get in. Mark 16:3.
But when they arrived, they were in for the surprise of their lives! A great earthquake had taken place.
Matthew 28:2 The angel of the Lord descended from heaven and rolled back the stone.
Matthew 28:2-4 When the women arrived, they were told not to fear. The angel knew they were seeking Jesus.
Matthew 28:5
There are four words in this text which I feel sum up the message of Resurrection Sunday.
There are others who have also expressed this idea.
The four words are imperatives.
This Passage show us the Four Commands of Resurrection Sunday

The First is the Command to Come!

The angel told the women to "COME".
This was an invitation often given in the Scriptures.
Ever since the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned against a righteous and holy God, God has had His arms open, saying "Come".
He gave the promise of the Messiah who would have victory over Satan.
Genesis 3:15 NASB95
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
He used the ark build by Noah as a picture of coming to Him for the protection of salvation.
He invited the children of Israel to come out of Egypt. Later He invited them to come into the promised land.
He gives great invitations to come in
Isaiah 55:1 NASB95
“Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.
Revelation 22:17 NASB95
The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.
Jesus made that same great invitation.
Matthew 11:28–30 NASB95
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Have you labored under a load of guilt?
Have you been burdened with the awfulness of your sin?
Have you labored to get into Heaven, and are still not sure you're going to make it?
JESUS SAYS "COME! COME UNTO ME!"
We come to Him who has left the tomb!
To Him that is risen from the dead!
To Him who is living right now in Heaven!
To Him who is offering forgiveness
and salvation to all who believe!
John 3:16 NASB95
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
We come to Him who offers peace.
and power to all who have believed on Him!
John 14:27 NASB95
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

The Second is the Command to See!

I believe God wants us to "see" that Christ is risen from the dead and is alive forever.
Acts 2:22–24 NASB95
“Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
In seeing that God wants us to place our faith and trust in Him as our Savior.
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

The Third is the Command to Go!

The women were told to go.
Jesus did not intend for anyone to stare continually into the empty tomb.
After we come to a point of seeing the empty tomb and trusting Christ as Savior, we are to go.
We are to go to learn more about Him.
2 Peter 3:18 NASB95
but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
We are to go to Him in prayer.
John 14:13–14 NASB95
“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
We are to go with Jesus Christ, allowing Him to live through us.
Galatians 2:20 NASB95
“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
We are to go to church and fellowship with other believers.
Hebrews 10:24–25 NASB95
and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
We are to go to a lost and dying world.
Acts 1:8 NASB95
but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
The Great Commission of Matt. 28:19-20
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

The Forth is the Command to Tell!

The women were supposed to tell the disciples of the resurrection.
It is our job to tell others what great things.
the Lord has done for us.
Psalm 107:2 NASB95
Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the adversary
Matthew 28:19–20 NASB95
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Mark 16:15 NASB95
And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
1 Peter 3:15 NASB95
but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;
The message of Resurrection Sunday is "COME AND SEE. GO AND TELL!"
