Title:  *THE CRUSHED ROSE OF SHARON*
Text:  John 16:7

One day I was reading through some of the chapters of the Gospel of John where Jesus was dropping some hints to His disciples about His soon departure.
The clues were so obvious, but it seems they don’t catch on.
In one of those conversations Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.”
Before we get too hard on the disciples, let’s put ourselves in their shoes and see what we might be thinking when we hear Jesus say this.
We might be wondering, “What advantage is there in You going away Jesus?
If we have You with us we have everything we need.
What advantage is thee in sending a Helper when we have the Son of God with us right now?”
/They just didn’t understand that all of us needed Jesus to die so that our sins could be atoned.
They didn’t understand that the Helper Jesus spoke of is the Holy Spirit, who is with all of us wherever we go.
*They just didn’t understand that Jesus had to be crushed so that His blood would be spilt.*/
*            I* needed Jesus to be crushed!
*You* needed Jesus to be crushed!
*And when Jesus was crushed, the sweet aroma of FORGIVENESS flowed from His veins!
The fragrance of the rose is not as sweet as when it’s pedals are crushed.
Jesus is the crushed Rose of Sharon!*
The cup of juice that you are going to hold in just a moment has a distinct aroma.
The sweet juice of the grap is released only when the fruit is crushed.
*May its fragrance remind you of the crushed Rose of Sharon whose blood makes the forgiveness of sin possible!*
Prayer:  “Thank you Jesus for allowing Yourself to be crushed so I might have life.
Now release Your Holy Spirit within me so that the beautiful aroma of the Rose of Sharon might flow from me.”
