Prayer: Elder Roger Cooper

Give Scripture: Luke 22:14-27

Luke 22:14–27 KJV 1900
And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

Lesson Scriptures: Daniel
Lesson Summaries
In Daniel 7 we covered the judgement that will befall the people who stand against God.
In Daniel 9, we talked about the sins of the Children of Israel.
In Daniel 8, we talked about God’s faithfulness to interpret dreams and his plans concerning his children and those who stand contrary to his will.
Now we are in the book of Luke where we will change direction but ultimately will be covering material in alignment with the book of Daniel.

Read the In-Focus

Background: Luke & Luke 22

Luke 22:1–2 KJV 1900
Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover. And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.
Setting
The setting it currently the Passover Ceder, or Passover meal that takes place in celebration of what the children of Israel observed in the land of Egypt.
The Feast of the Unleavened Bread immediately followed the Passover sacrifice made in remembrance of the act of God concerning Egypt. The Feast lasted seven days during the month of Nisan (March–April) on the Jewish calendar. On each of these days in the month, a sacrifice was presented And unleavened bread was eaten.
Specifically they are in the city of Jerusalem which is the capitol of the Roman Province of Palestine. They are here because the Passover celebration required that all males 12 and over migrate to Jerusalem and many families opted to migrate to Jerusalem of their own volition. As such, the city was bussling with activity from the people who lived in Jerusalem and those who were migrating there from areas outside of the city.
And yet, here we find the Sanhedrin Council and those who sit on it actively working to kill Jesus through their own surreptitious actions.
Luke 22:8–13 KJV 1900
And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare? And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth in. And ye shall say unto the goodman of the house, The Master saith unto thee, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples? And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
So the setup for this feast and passage occurs in these previous versus where we see both sides making preparations.
The Priests are making preparations to have Jesus murdered and Jesus is making preparations for the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread on the first night following Passover.
Here we see the contradiction of the people who are accusing Jesus of being blasphemous and unholy are in fact themselves neglecting their priestly duties in the name of capturing a man who has done no wrong to anyone.
