The Effects of a Perfect Word...
An ode to the power and perfection of his word.
God’s Word makes a difference
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Lets just say it God’s word is effective. It will make a difference.
You will benefit from putting the word of God in your mind.
You will benefit from memorizing the Word of God.
You will benefit from obeying, submitting yourself to its commands
1. God’s Word Gives Understanding - As a response to Prayer. James supports this “if any man lack wisdom let him ask of God.”
TAU.
Let my cry come near before thee, O Lord:
Give me understanding according to thy word.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
Get wisdom, get understanding:
Forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee:
Love her, and she shall keep thee.
2. God’s Word Brings Deliverance
Let my supplication come before thee:
Deliver me according to thy word.
I am delivered from temptation (make a way of escape)…
I am delivered from destruction (wages of sin is death)…
I am delivered from consequences of poor decisions (Proverb about the wise man)
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble;
Thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
3. God’s Word Changes the way I speak -
My lips shall utter praise,
When thou hast taught me thy statutes.
My tongue shall speak of thy word:
For all thy commandments are righteousness.
Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee;
And let thy judgments help me.
When the Bible makes sense we tend to use that sense in our lives.
4. God’s Word give you access to his help.
Let thine hand help me;
For I have chosen thy precepts.
Their is an old adage “God helps those who help themselves.”
This is not a verse from the Bible. Instead God helps those that place their faith in him and their actions in line with obedient faith.
5. God’s Word changes where I find my joy…
I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord;
And thy law is my delight.
The Joy of the Lord is my strength.
Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.
6. God’s Word draws me like a lamb.
I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant;
For I do not forget thy commandments.
This is the climax of the Glorious devotion to God’s Word. He elevates his word to the place that you and i are to see it as the source of hope and strength that God sees it as.
Here is the issue God’s word is only these things to those that will trust it for these purposes. To the hopless it is hope. To the poor in spirit it is access to the Father.
You and I are to submit to the Word SO that we might find his WORD like a lamb. You see this closing verse gives us the perfect Illustration: The Psalmist sees himself like the Hymnist.
Prone to wonder lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart lord take and seal it
Seal it for thy courts above.
The Psalmist sees that he wanders from Gods’ Word. But his word acts as a marker and bright light shining the path back to him.
