Who is your greatest teacher? There are men who I have learned from, but as far as most things, I learned from my dad. There are men of God, who I have learned from. Different coaches, I have learned from. All these things are good, but the greatest teacher we have is God. And the greatest thing that teaches us is His love. Verse 10 tells us that God sending His Son for us, it the love of God. In. v 7, John says that love is of God, and in v. 8, he who cannot love, does not know God. So while we are
What does God’s love teach you?
To love Him
God’s love teaches us to love Him
When someone does something so great for us, it should cause us to have a love for Him, if someone were to give you a million dollars, you would love them? How much more should we love God?
Romans 12:1 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”
So because we know God’s love, it causes us to live by God’s love
2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:”
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
How do we show that we love God?
John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
Does your life show that you love God? Are you obeying God?
To love one another
God shows us what love is, and we need to show that to one another
John says something interesting that no one has seen God, so if we love God who we do not see, how can we not love people who we do see
Jesus says love for each other is how people will know we are Christians
John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
Matthew 22:36-40 “Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
When we Love God, and Love others, we can be confident before Him at the judgment seat.
