Live a New Life

Romans 6:1–4 NIV
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Act of Jesus

No shame in Hope

Gift of Grace

Only Boast in Jesus

Death through Adam, Life through Jesus

Sin increased, Grace even More

Keep on Sinning?

Romans 6:1 NIV
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?
man is addicted to sin
after being given grace through Jesus
some wanted their cake and to eat it as well
so much grace - so no issues with on-going sinning
reveals the wrong thinking
sin is sin and leads to death

No More Life of Sin

Romans 6:2 NIV
By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
rebuttal is strong and immediate
by no means
there is no wriggle room in this statement
we are talking about life through the righteous act of Jesus
death has been defeated
2 Timothy 1:10 it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
Jesus has brought life
grace increased more than sin can ever do so

Christ and Death

Romans 6:3 NIV
Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
basic truth of the gospel
we are fully immersed in Jesus
Jesus died and put paid to sin and death through his resurrection
we identify with Jesus - that is our confession of faith
we are fully immersed in his death
we join with him in his death
we must also join with him in life

Live a New Life

Romans 6:4 NIV
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
the outcome was that we may regain life
we lost it through Adam
Jesus given it back to us
resurrection is the key
1 Corinthians 15:17
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
hallelujah moment - Christ lives
so do each one of us who have accepted Jesus

Paul Continues

Romans 6:5–7 NIV
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

United in Jesus

Romans 6:5 NIV
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.
reinforcement of the truth
united in death, united now in life
this changes how we view our walk in Christ

No Longer Slaves to Sin

Romans 6:6 NIV
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
we have a new spirit and a new heart
the old self - one of sin and in death - has been crucified
the old self has been taken by Jesus
let us embrace that reality
no longer be slaves to sin

Free from Sin

Romans 6:7 NIV
because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.
sin demands death - spiritual and physical
being crucified with Jesus has had our spiritual death revoked
we are free to live
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

FINALLY

Galatians 5:24-25 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
