Jesus is the king who will sit on the throne for eternity

Notes
Transcript
We have been learning about the kings of David and how they all point to the eternal king Christ Jesus
However, last week, Akash taught us and showed us from God’s Word that the throne of Israel is no more
How can this be if God gave a promise that this throne would last forever?
In this emptying of the throne, God gave us a reason and a promise of what he would do in the future
let us first look at the reason

God of Rest

God brought Israel to the land of Canaan for rest but they have not rested since God brought them to the land
490 years of working and using the land for their own benefits
Leviticus 25:1-7 Sabbath for the land
The weekly sabbath is for them to rest, this sabbath of rest is for the land
Through the sabbaths they were to learn that they were to trust in God and that the land was his that he provided for them
Therefore God removes Israel from the land of canaan so that it can observe its rest for 70 years
Jeremiah 25:8-14 Because they have not heard his voice he will send them away
God knows that true rest and peace only comes from a relationship with him
Through this teaching and discipline of his people he is going to draw them back to himself and give them true peace
This is not just national peace, or financial peace but true eternal peace when we have a relationship with God
Jeremiah 29:10-14 Thoughts of Peace

God of kings

God chose David and his family to sit on the throne of Israel
However, we have seen that when one of david’s kings followed after wickedness God would bring judgment on him and remove him from the throne
God is over the kings who sit on thrones and all must be in subjection to him
Romans 13:1 authorities
Proverbs 21:1, 22:28 In God’s hands
God chose Persia and Babylon and its king to come and rule over Israel for 70 years
He send Nebuchadrezzar (Jeremiah 25:9)
He stirred up Cyrus’ heart and pointed him in the direction to go
God is not being influenced by history but he is influencing history according to his will
This to will be used in his plan to fulfill his promises given to Israel and all man

God of promises

God has been making promises since the beginning
God’s promise to Adam (Genesis 3:15)
God’s promise to Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3)
God’s promise to Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15-19)
God’s promise to David (2 Chronicles 6:16)
God made a promise to bring Israel back to the land and once again make them a great kingdom
A nation of believers
A remnant will be brought back as true followers of God and added to them will be those of other nations that also trust in Jesus
Hebrews 1 The eternal king on the throne
Psalms 2 God has set his king
