INTRO

Last week dived into “A Battle to Fight”
(1 Sam. 13) We talked about how David’s brothers and army of Israel were “Suited and Booted” but they did nothing.
“The only thing necessary for evil to triumph in the world is that good men do nothing.”
Learned how the devil was a “roaring lion”.
His teeth are sin and death.
Once Jesus died and was resurrected, he destroyed Satan’s teeth
1 Corinthians 15:55–58 ESV
“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
WE FOUND OUT WHO OUR CHRIST IS!
My Savior was not a sissy.
He didn’t cower in the face of adversity.
He didn’t 2nd guess His identity.
He understood His Mission.
He was obedient to His Father.
He for-filled the covenant alone.
He took the cross alone.
QUESTIONS THAT I ASKED MYSELF
WHERE IS THE FIGHT YOU?
WHERE IS YOUR PASSION AND ZEAL FOR THE LORD?
WHERE IS YOUR HUNGER FOR THE WORD OF GOD?
DO YOU HAVE A READY DEFENSE FOR THE HOPE THAT LIES WITHIN YOU?
WHAT ABOUT US?
God didn’t call for us to be safe.
God didn’t domesticate us, the world did and there is a reason.
Satan don’t mess with men who are safe.
God made us dangerous!
Our problem is that we no longer can stomach conflict.
Fight on! For God himself is with you; Jehovah Nissi is your banner, and Jehovah Rophi is the healer of your wounds. Fear not, you shall overcome, for who can defeat Omnipotence? Fight on, “looking unto Jesus”
Charles Spurgeon
To fight against sin is to fight against the devil, the world and oneself. The fight against oneself is the worst fight of all.
Martin Luther

AN ADVENTURE TO LIVE

STORY FROM THE AUTHOR
There were 3 brothers:
Alfred (oldest)- practical, pragmatic, and cautious. Went to the big city to become a business man and eventually a politician. Something in him dies and he becomes a hollow man.
Samuel (youngest)- still a boy at heart, tender, literate, sensitive, and timid. He was killed early in the film and we know that he wasn’t ready for battle.
Tristian (middle)- was wild at heart, embodied the west, rides wild stallions, fights bear with a knife, wins the beautiful woman.
Author concludes that he has yet to meet a man that wanted to be Alfred or Samuel and he has yet to meet a woman who wants to marry one.
There is a reason why the American cowboy has almost become a myth.
He embodies the yearning of every man to “go west” and find a place where he can be all that he knows he was meant to be.
TELL STORIES ABOUT CHILDHOOD
Jumping the draining ditch.
Jumping the ramp (got stitches).
Neighborhood Tag Team Tournament.
We were wild, kids with no boundaries to explore, to grow mentally, and socially.
Walter Bruegemann’s description of God:
“Wild, dangerous, unfettered and free.
WHAT EXACTLY IS WILD AT HEART?
Wild at Heart is Not:
“Becoming a lumberjack and drinking motor oil.”
It is “authentic masculinity
We climbed the tallest trees,
played cops and robbers,
cowboys and Indians.
jumped off the roof onto old mattresses
Bike dodgeball
“The recipe for fun, add to any activity an element of danger, stir in a little exploration, add a dash of destruction. “
STORY OF THE JUDGE
Him and his buddy built a boat.
Sailed it off the cost of Bermuda and got hit by a storm with 25 ft waves.
They thought they were going to die, but he then confessed, “It was the best time of my life.”
Note: Adventure is not just about having fun.
“Adventure requires something of us, put us to the test.”
“Though we may fear the test, at the same time we yearn to be tested, discover if we have what it takes. “
If a man has lost this desire, says he doesn’t want it , that’s only because he doesn’t know he has what it takes, believes that he will fail test.
And so he decides its better not to try.
Most men hate the unknown and much like Cain, we want to settle down and build our own city and take control of their life.

A BEAUTY TO LOVE

If you look throughout literature you will notice something:
Romeo had Juliet
King Author fights for Guinevere
Robin rescues Maid Marian
For some of you, lets not forget the first time you kissed your wife.
Think back before then.
Elementary or middle school
Having that crush, puppy love
Those feelings got a lot heavier when we became teenagers.
THERE IS NOTHING SO INSPIRING TO A MAN AS A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN
She’ll make you want to charge the castle, slay the giant, leap across a rooftop.
Foolish courage usually comes from 2 sources:
The bottom of an alcoholic beverage
The heart of a man in love
Tell Story of the Girl on the Dance floor
Most of us have stories similar to this, especially when we were teenagers.
Look at Samson, David (Bathseba, Abigail) Jacob (Rachel) , Adam (Eve), Ahab (Jezebel), King Xerxes (Esther) , Abraham (Sarah) (Gen. 12.),
Genesis 12:14–20 ESV
When Abram entered Egypt, the Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful. And when the princes of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house. And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels. But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. So Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? Why did you say, ‘She is my sister,’ so that I took her for my wife? Now then, here is your wife; take her, and go.” And Pharaoh gave men orders concerning him, and they sent him away with his wife and all that he had.
A MAN WANTS TO BE THE HERO TO THE BEAUTY!
Young men who went off to war carry a photo of their sweetheart in their wallet. (Pearl Harbor movie)
Men who fly combat missions would paint a beauty on the side of their aircrafts.
WWII B-17 bomber crews gave those iron machines names like “Me and My Gal” or “Memphis Bell”.
Think of all the stories of which there was a man in deep pursuit of a beautiful woman, how would the story end if the pursuit never happened?
Lonely Men fighting lonely battles.
Ex. James Bond and Indiana Jones
“Its not just that a man needs a battle to fight; he needs someone to fight for.”
Nehemiah 4:14 ESV
And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”
The Battle itself is never enough; a man yearns for romance.
It’s not just that he is the hero, he is the hero to someone particular the woman he loves.
Look at Adam, God gave him the wind, the sea, horses, tigers, hawks, yet God said in Gen. 2:18
Genesis 2:18 ESV
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”

THE FEMININE HEART

3 THINGS THAT ARE IN A WOMAN’S HEART BUT NOT A MAN’S:
NOT EVERY WOMAN WANT’S TO FIGHT BUT EVERY WOMAN YEARNS TO BE FOUGHT FOR.
In a woman’s heart, she want more than to be noticed, she wants to be wanted.
A woman wants to be pursued. “I just want to be a priority to some one”.
These are not childhood dreams that they want to live out, they are at the core of the feminine heart.
EVERY WOMAN WANTS AN ADVENTURE TO SHARE, NOT BE THE ADVENTURE ( A partner in crime)
A woman don’t want to be the adventure, she want to be caught up into something greater than herself.
EVERY WOMAN WANTS TO HAVE A BEAUTY TO UNVEIL.
From very young, the pressure of beauty is upon them.
She wants to be more than beautiful, she wants to be the beauty.
The one that stands out over all others, the one that captures your eyes.
Every young girl loves to play dress up and twirl around in a dress, longing to capture her daddy’s delight.
At the heart of every girl, this question is asked, “Do you see me?” and “Are you captivated by what you see?”
The world kills a woman’s heart when it tells here to be tough, efficient, and independent.
Ask yourself, What is a Christian woman look like to you?
A Christian woman is tired.
All we have offered the feminine soul is pressure to be a good servant.
There is no one fighting for her heart. (her heart is wicked lol)
There is no adventure to get swept up in.
She doubts that she has any beauty to unveil.
Proverbs 31:10-31 (ESV)
Proverbs 31:10–31 ESV
An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

BY WAY OF THE HEART

WHICH WOULD YOU RATHER BE SAID OF YOU?
“Eddie? Sure I know him. He’s a real sweet guy.”
“yes, I now about Eddie. He’s a dangerous man…in a really good way.”.
Often women who have been hurt by masculinity gone bad settle for a “safe man”.
They then wonder why later that there is no passion in their marriage, why he is distant and cold.
WHAT IF THESE DESIRES ARE TELLING US THE TRUTH?
God gave us eyes so that we can see.
He gave us ears that we might hear.
He gave us wills that we might choose.
He gave us hearts that we might live.
THE WAY WE HANDLE THE HEART IS EVERYTHING
A Man
Must know that he is powerful
Must know that he has what it takes.
A Woman
Must know that she is beautiful.
Must know that she is worth fighting for.
