1 Timothy 6:2b-10; Cravings or Contentment

Introduction: Have you ever had to do a public speech in elementary school? We had a 4-H public speaking competition at my elementary school. Every teacher required the five paragraph layout: Intro, 3 Paragraph Body, and Conclusion. Now, Paul is much more skilled than I was in my fourth grade 4-H writing competition. Yet, his is going to conclude his letter just the way he began it, like we were told inn fourth grade. Paul’s conclusion spans from 2b-19. He is going to remind Timothy of his mission as and elder to the Ephesians. He is going to tell Timothy to teach and exhort his people in the sound faith and good conscience that protects against those who have fallen away because of their own sinful desires. He is also going to tell them how to have lives of godliness.

Sermon in a sentence: Christians should find their contentment in Christ.

*Craving Controversy (vs. 3-5)

They want the honor and glory.
These cravings lead to changes in doctrine and practice

*Craving Cash (vs. 9-10)

The prosperity gospel plunges people into damnation. (Mark 10:17-27)
Preachers must be an example with our money.

*Content in Christ

There is nothing greater that you can have than Jesus Christ!
In Christ you now also have:
