Seeking to Honor God

Knowing Grace and God’s Strength
Is It Loyalty or Is It Division
It’s Not Me, It’s You!
The Secret Ingredient for Wisdom
Working So That God is Honored

Saying “So Long” to Servant Saints

Minister Dorothy Smith
Rev. Pinkie Foley
Saints through Sanctification
Servants through Surrender

A Legacy that Lasts is In the Lives of Others

People Are Always The Problem

1 Corinthians 3:1 ESV
1 But I, brothers, could not address you as spiritual people, but as people of the flesh, as infants in Christ.

People on Pablum

1 Corinthians 3:2 ESV
2 I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it. And even now you are not yet ready,

People Get Political

1 Corinthians 3:3 ESV
3 for you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

People Are Imprisoned by Personality

1 Corinthians 3:4 ESV
4 For when one says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not being merely human?

Servants of the Savior

1 Corinthians 3:5 ESV
5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each.

Servants and Seeds

1 Corinthians 3:6–7 ESV
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.
Servants don’t make the seeds—they are the result of a mature blossom
Given the seeds, seeing the soil, seeking the stalk
Still needing the sun.

God Only Gives the Growth

Planting is introducing the seed to the soil
Watering is nurturing seed and soil

Servants Are Still Important

1 Corinthians 3:8 ESV
8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.
for the work is given to each one according to their gifts.
Who Is Important Here?
1 Corinthians 3:8 ESV
8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.
Most of us don’t have a lot of contact with the farm anymore.
We just go to the store:
The Fruit of the Farm is what we see.

This All Belongs to God

1 Corinthians 3:9 ESV
9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

God is the Contractor

1 Corinthians 3:10 ESV
10 According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it.

Only One Foundation

1 Corinthians 3:11 ESV
11 For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

Build for God’s Glory

1 Corinthians 3:12–13 ESV
12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.
Sticks or stones?
Destructive Testing

What is the Goal of Our Work?

1 Corinthians 3:14 ESV
14 If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward.
The Point is This:

Our Work Must Honor God

We are laborers, each doing a part
God made the plans, prepared the workers, gave each a part, in order to follow the plans God made.
We can see the plans
We must follow the plans
The Best Part of Being God’s Servants:

God is Responsible for the End Result

We can all count the seeds inside an apple.

Only God can count the apples within a seed.

Grace is Given Even If We Goof

1 Corinthians 3:15 ESV
15 If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
