Progressing in spiritual growth. This implies that we are not perfect.
I spoke at our national conference and Pastor Ike Graham told me afterward that someone from our congregation in Orrville where I grew up who heard me preach said, “When did Ethan become so good at preaching?” He hadn’t heard me preach for over 15 years. He taught me in Sunday school and only knew me as some young kid who had just started in the pastorate.

12. Does He persevere? (16)

16 Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
“ensure salvation” - perseverance of the saints or salvation fulfilled.
