You’re Something Else - 1 Peter 2:9

Protocol; Greetings from ECC Midwinter;

I Peter 2:9 “9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

“You’re Something Else”

INTRO: Someone or something that cannot be described in words. It's not just good , it’s great .

You Are Something Else! You just completed 21 days of CONSECRATION to God and for His glory.

You may have much to say about yourself; IMPROVED PRAYER LIFE; CONSISTENT DEVOTION; MORE ENERGY; LESS TV; WEIGHT LOSS.

What does God say about you?

God is always concerned about RESULTS. The RESULTS of the CONSECRATION in His opinion is “You will be able to show His goodness to others who may not know Him.” Evangelism.

What God says about you is “YOU”RE SOMETHING ELSE.”

YOU ARE CHOSEN - 9a

Carefully selected; CHOSEN=eklektos = you are picked “out of” according to His purpose.

Picking a baseball team.

John 15:16 “You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit” I chose you…for MY purpose…bear fruit.

Unlike the Baseball team...All of YOU is CHOSEN by GOD.

Jeremiah 1:5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.””

Matt 22:14 “14 “Many are called, but few are chosen.””

God says YOU ARE CHOSEN.

You’re Something Else!

YOU ARE ROYAL PRIEST - 9b

OT - Birth determined the priesthood. Aaron; Levites.

Their duties involved offering the daily sacrifices; Jewish holiday sacrifices, blessing the people in a Priestly Blessing; and the daily meal sacrifice.

You are Royal -authorized by God to take territory and expand His Kingdom.

You are a Priest - have direct access and fellowship with Him in the throne room of God. Take Me to the King.

IS 62:2-3 “2 The nations will see your righteousness. World leaders will be blinded by your glory. And you will be given a new name by the Lord’s own mouth. 3 The Lord will hold you in his hand for all to see— a splendid crown in the hand of God.”

You are Royal Priests not because of your righteousness BUT because of God”s righteousness.

YOU ARE GOD’S POSSESSION

Possess = peri-po-a-o = experience of security; keeping safe; acquired with considerable effort.

God owns You.

You were bought with a price.

1 Cor. 6:19-20 “19 Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

First, you are uniquely God’s possession. Nothing owns you like God owns you. God owns your heart; your mind; your life; your future; everything about YOU.

Second, you are individually God’s possession. Not just the church — the individuals inside it.

Third, you are sacrificially God’s possession. You became God’s possession through the sacrifice of Christ.

Lastly, you are eternally God’s possession. There will never be a time when you are not God’s possession—you are His possession eternally.

You are God’s precious possession.

And He did it for HIs purpose…for YOU to show others His Goodness.

CLOSE: In darkness you can’t see your way. In the light you see the right path to follow.

God doesn’t want us to return to darkness. He wants us to grow in Him and lead others to Him.

We are CONSECRATED. Let’s continue to remain CONSECRATED...

...Because YOU’RE SOMETHING ELSE!
