During the first 8 chapters of Romans Paul lays out his belief in Christ and shares how he converted from being one of the most Zealous Jews to one of the most Zealous Christians.
Often times commentators dont really know what to do with chapters 9-11 and some dont even deal with it at all.
They go from Pauls plea at the end of chapter 8 to the beginning of chapter 12 and while yes the story does flow well like that you leave of one of the most transparent times in the New Testament when Paul tells of his heart break for his fellow Jews who are still living in darkness about who Jesus was and what he can do.
This morning we are going to look at Pauls true feelings about his fellow Jews and look at the parallels between him and his fellow Jews verses us and the people we are close to.

Paul’s Personal Connection With Unbelieving Israel (vv 1-3)
Paul begins this chapter on a personal note expressing his grave concern for his own people.
His soul is burdened over their condition in a way similar to the prophets of old.
Look what he says in verse 1 and 2:
Great sorrow
Unceasing anguish in his heart
Paul had a true non stop burden for the people who he use to be like.
Paul knows what it is like to be the one who hates and kills Christians because he was one. Acts 9:1
1 But Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest
Part of His desire to see these people come to Christ was he knows how much it effected his own life.
Once we meet Christ we are never the same.
We are changed forever.
To some it seemed like Christianity left Judaism behind but in actuality Christianity is Judaism fulfilled.
The sorrow might be interpreted as somewhat less than sincere.
This is why he gives such a solemn introduction in which he summons 2 witnesses- his union with Christ who is the truth, and his conscience as aided by the Holy Spirit.
This was a heavy heavy burden that Paul carried his whole life after his conversion.
In verse 3 he goes even farther by saying he would allow himself to be cut off from Christ to give redemption to his fellow Jews.
His burden is so great that He would be willing to be cut off from the one who saved him and the one that he loves more than anything else in the world just to save the people of whom he is one.
This is how much he loved other people and wanted others to come to Christ.
That he would give up his salvation for the rest of his people that hung the one on the Cross that gives salvation.
Pauls union with Christ was the orbit within which his emotions moved and the fountain from which they flowed.
If you are truly in Love with Christ then you want to tell everyone to meet how He can help their life.
If He lives in you then He cant help but follow out of you.
Do we show this same kind off passion for the people around us?
Are we so rapped up and have such a relationship with Christ that He follows out of us like a fountain?
We are to grow the kingdom that is our primary mission, which Christ told us as He ascended into Heaven. Matt 28:19-20
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Are we doing that, not only are we commanded to do that we should do it out of pure love and excitement.

God’s Personal Connection With Unbelieving Israel (4-5)
Not only does Paul try to show his personal connection with the Jews but he tries to show the connection between God and the Jews.
We have to remember when Jesus showed and started preaching His Gospel it turned everything on its ear.
These Jews lived their whole lives thinking they were doing the will of God and were doing what God told them to do.
They were not wrong they just did not have the whole picture.
Here in verses 4 and 5 Paul lays out all the things that the Jews have been given and what they still have and how God has not turned their backs on them but fulfilled His promise to them.
Paul gives a list of things that has been given to them from God:
The Name Israel Gal 6:16
16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.
b. Adoption Ex 4:22
22 Then you shall say to Pharaoh, ‘Thus says the Lord, Israel is my firstborn son,
c. The Glory of the Lord Ex 40:34-38
34 Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. 36 Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out. 37 But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up. 38 For the cloud of the Lord was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
d. The Covenants
The four everlasting covenants
1.) Noah- Never to flood the earth again
2.) Abraham- HIs descendants would be a great nation
3.) David- The Messiah would come through His line
4.) Messianic- That God would remember His people and send a savior
e. Being given the law Deut 4:14
14 And the Lord commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and rules, that you might do them in the land that you are going over to possess.
f. Worship Rom 12:1
1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
g. The promises Eph 2:12
12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
h. The patriarchs Rom 11:28
28 As regards the gospel, they are enemies for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.
i. Christ being of their flesh and race who is God Eph 4:6
6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
j. Blessed forever Heb 1:8
8 But of the Son he says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.
Paul is showing them that God loves them enough to make them part of His plan of redemption and to send the savior of the whole world through their lines.
The blood that flowed through their veins flowed through Christ and was poured out on the hill of calvary for them and everyone else who has ever lived on this earth.
God loves them and He loves us no matter how much wrong we do He never turns His back and no matter how much we mess up He will always be there for us.
Why? Because He loves us. and because of that love we love others and must tell others about Him.
