With today being January 22, this is the anniversary of the Supreme Court Decision on Roe Vs. Wade that made abortion legal 50 years ago today. January 22, 1973.
Since 1984, 11 years after the Supreme Court Ruling, President Reagan set this date aside to recognize the sanctity of human life.
Now, since last January, the legal and cultural makeup has changed drastically. Thankfully, Roe V. Wade never made it to it’s 50th birthday as it was overturned last year.
So, we thank God for that but still must understand that there is much work to be done on the State level to continue to bring the darkness and evil of abortion into the light and to proclaim the goodness, mercy, and grace of God for all.
The Bible teaches us that all human life is precious in the eyes of God. From the moment of conception, every human being is created in the image of God and is deserving of love, respect, and protection. This is why the sanctity of life is so important to us as Christians.
As Christians, we believe that all human life is sacred, regardless of the circumstances of a person's birth or the stage of their development. This means that we are called to protect the lives of the unborn, the elderly, the disabled, and the marginalized in our society. As Isaiah says, “To do good, to seek justice, to correct oppression, to bring justice to the fatherless, to plead the widow’s cause.”
It also means that we must be advocates for life and speak out against any form of violence or injustice that threatens the sanctity of any human life. We must speak boldly and truthfully, but graciously and humbly as well.
We must also remember that the sanctity of life is not just about protecting the physical lives of human beings, but also about protecting their spiritual lives. We are called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with others, so that they may have eternal life.
As we move forward in our mission to protect and uphold the sanctity of life, let us remember the words of Psalm 139:13-14: "For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."
Let us be mindful of the sanctity of life as we go about our daily lives and let us continue to pray for the protection and preservation of all human life.
I’m so grateful to partner with ministries like the Pregnancy Resource Center that care for moms who are faced with unplanned pregnancies and are fearful and not knowing what to do next.
I’m thankful for ministries like The Forgotten Initiative who care for children in the Foster Care system.
I’m grateful for Deeper Still who minister to women who have had abortions. They care for these women, pray over these women, and comfort them with the truth that in Christ, there is no condemnation.
