Text: Psalm 119.17-24
CIT: God uses his word to Reveal His Wonderful...
Marvelous message we bring,
Glorious carol we sing,
Wonderful word of the King,
Jesus is coming again!
https://lyricstranslate.com
My Future is hinged on the goodness and bounty of God.
For me to live is to keep his Word.
For me to live is to Learn His Word.
Doctrine of illumination vs 18
What is the wondrous things?
The Stone that the Builder Rejected...
He will be called Wonderful...
I submit to you that the Law of God was intended to introduce us to Jesus.
The Law was given to guide its readers to the Person of Jesus Christ.
HOW - through the doctrine of Illumination...
Biblical illumination is the process by which the Holy Spirit helps a person to understand the truth of God's Word.
Illumination is often discussed alongside related concepts of biblical inspiration and interpretation.
Inspiration involves how God has revealed spiritual truth; interpretation involves our study of spiritual truth; illumination involves our understanding of spiritual truth and involves both the Scriptures and the influence of the Holy Spirit.

This was the promise of the Holy Spirit to bring divine inspiration to the disciples.
How were they going to remember what they witnessed in some instances 30 years removed.
Paul was not praying for new revelation, but for spiritual illumination of truth they already knew.
And that is our desperate need, every time we open the Book we should beg God: “Open my eyes that I may behold wonderful things from Your Law."
Ps 119:18
The Source of spiritual illumination is the Father, the Channel is the Holy Spirit and the supreme Goal is that He shine "in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ."
(2Cor 4:6+)
“Study of God’s Word brings peace to the heart.
In it, we find a light for every darkness, life in death, the promise of our Lord’s return, and the assurance of everlasting glory.”
- D.L. Moody
"Oh, that Thy words, like the beams of the sun, may enter through the window of my understanding, and dispel the darkness of my mind!" - Spurgeon
Soul breaking?
- Like Heart breaking?
I submit to you that the Light beams are none other than the light of the world and the soul that will look for God’s revelation will see the Person of Jesus.
- Rebukes the proud
God’s Judgement:
Pride is to err from God’s commandments.
To imagine your way is better than the one who designed life is Pride.
Men and Princes are faulty and their hearts are aimed to corruption.
So Christ offers his righteousness only to those that will come in humility.
Doctrine of Holiness vs. 21
- Levels the Power difference
One Judge that can level out princes and believers.
The powers of this earth may act as if they are in control.
But we have the judge of the world and the judge of all time.
- Provides correct counsel
One of the great devastations to the Christian faith in our time has to be the Bible as text book.
We approach the Bible as OT study and NT study.
The Bible is a love letter about a person that loves his people and reveals himself through the person of his son.
To imagine that the great revelation is merely a list of things that the Jews observed that when they observed them they were living Jesus out so that they would know him when he came.
But we have fallen into the trap of the wicked one.
That is to satisfy the heart of God’s people on trivia and make them miss the person of Christ.
