In Mark’s gospel he is doing for the reader what Jesus is doing for his followers in that he repeats the series of Jesus’ work by stringing together similar events back to back
In today’s sermon we are going to look at where this loops back to the beginning and see the compassion that Jesus has on those who cannot yet understand and cannot yet speak the truth even though they are so close.

Deaf Man Healed

He takes him aside to deal with him and his situation
He is not using this man to draw more attention for himself, in fact he is constantly telling people to remain silent about his miracles
He shows a compassion for this man in a way that is unique to him
He cannot ask him questions like he has others
He cannot draw him in by his speech so he shows his work to him
Jesus demonstrates his compassion
placing his finger in his ears, touching his tongue showing the man that Jesus is bringing healing
spitting showing the fallenness of this man’s position and need of purification
sighing as a sign of compassion and concern for this man’s condition

Multitude Fed

starts again by expressing his compassion for those who may fall weary on the road
They had come and heard but have not yet fully comprehended the truth
Just as the disciples that still don’t have full trust in the power of Christ
Jesus only sends away when they are fully satisfied
does not desire that any should perish but that all should come to the truth (2 Peter 3:9)
Another testimony of his compassion in the remaining 7 baskets to show the disciples again to trust in him

Pharisees Rejected

However, when Jesus deals with the Pharisees he has a deep sigh in his spirit because of their stubbornness to believe.
Jesus has shown them time and time again
Yet they ask for more signs just to tempt him
No sign will be given to these kind of people
Jesus will have compassion on those who are growing and seeking after a true heart
But no compassion will be given to those who have hardened wicked hearts
