Introduction
Today we are talking about Falling from God’s Grace
Can you fall from God’s grace?
I know I don’t believe that.
I know you have preached from the Pulpit that You can’t fall from God’s grace.
In part that is true.
I have preached from the pulpit that you can’t fall from God’s grace in the since that you can’t lose your salvation.
Last week we talked about God’s adoption of us into his family .
Something that we have to rely on him for.
We have to have faith.
And it can’t be taken away from us.
Once saved always saved is a truth that allows assurance of one’s salvation.
We sing about it in that song blessed assurance
Look at John 6:39-40
There are others
So when I say fall from God’s Grace I am not saying that we are falling from grace as in we lose our salvation.
I am talking about moving away from God’s Grace.
Christ set you free so that you don’t have to be enslaved again.
For freedom he has made you free.
Not for some respite from the law or your old ways.
But for freedom.
So stand fast
This is what it means to fall way from God’s grace.
When we fall away from God’s grace we turn to legalism
We turn to what we can and cannot Do
We turn to how can earn my salvation or repay God for What he has done for us
Which is impossible
“You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.”
The only thing that matters is faith through Love verse 5
That’s why Jesus is quoted as saying the most two important commandments are
Love God
And Love your neighbor as yourself
Faith through Love And that is a call to freedom
Which does not give us a right to do anything we want that’s not what freedom is.
Freedom is not anarchy
Anarchy is “freedom” for one person/group at the expense of everyone else’s freedom.
In other words Anarchy is enslavement of others to your will and ways .
Because you want to be “Free”.
Freedom is in Love
It if love that looks after the Neighbor as we do ourselves.
Unlike anarchy the neighbor is thought of in our love
And it is for this that we have been set free
We are free in Christ.
So that we can Love.
Love does not devour others.
It does not destroy.
That is what legalism does.
It destroys.
We use it to put others down.
We deconstruct others but bringing them under laws and regulations.
Love builds up.
It lifts others it encourages.
It strengthens.
It can tear down in a constructive manner.
It can tear down in order to improve.
Sometime Love has to tear down lies.
Lies like you can’t.
Lies like your aren’t Good enough.
Lies like you’re not attractive.
Lies that that is a good thing to do.
Sometimes we have been lied to and live in sin.
Love corrects and correction has a constructive tearing down.
But it never is destructive.
The point is never to destroy and defeat.
That isn’t Love.
And Love is the whole of God’s commands
Love:
I Love because I first was Loved, And his love just pours out on me.
And I am blessed so I can bless.
I can bless others
