Introduction

Galatians 3:29-4:20

Galatians 3:29–4:20 (NIV)
29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
1 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3 So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. 6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.
12 I plead with you, brothers and sisters, become like me, for I became like you. You did me no wrong. 13 As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you, 14 and even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself. 15 Where, then, is your blessing of me now? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?
17 Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no good. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them. 18 It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you. 19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20 how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you!
Pray
Abraham’s Descendants are heirs according to promise
Abraham’s descendant’s are those who are baptized into Christ we take on the promise of Abraham when we accept Christ. So if you have accepted Christ as your Lord and savior you are an heir.
The only way to become an heir is to trust Christ for our salvation
Galatians 4:4 CSB
4 When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
We were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. Slave to those things that are not God. Anytime we think of slavery and the Bible we should instantly get taken back to the story in Exodus where God freed the people from Slavery. Andy here we see God once again freeing us from Slavery.
You were slaves to Sin or to the Law before Christ
Galatians 4:5–7 CSB
5 to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then God has made you an heir.
Freeing us to be heirs of God
Now you are children of God. Getting to call him Abba (father).
What a great honor it is to call him father. Being adopted into his family. And being a child of God you are an heir of God

Heir of God?

What does that mean to be an heir of God?
An heir is the one or ones who Co-heirs. Who receive at a certain appointed time the property, belongings, or blessing of another.
We often think about it at death, But it doesn’t have to be death just at an appointed time. The prodigal son asked for his inheritance well in advance of his father’s death.
Which was a major insult, because it says you might as well be dead to me but inheritance could be given earlier.
In the Old Testament the heirs of property were the sons, especially the firstborn
DT 21:15-17 provides that the firstborn shall inherit a double portion.
They were also the ones who were responsible for seeing of the business of the father and representing him when he was not physically present.
But in the New Testament we have the Idea that we are Heirs to God with Christ if we.
Believe on Jesus –John 1:12
Been Born again – John 3:3
Received the Spirit of adoption –Gal 4:4-7
Been Renewed in the image of God –Col 3:9-10
So in other words If you have faith.
Which means we Inherit:
Salvation – Heb 1:14
Eternal life- Titus 3:7
God’s Promise – Hebrews 11:7
Heirs of the Kingdom –James 2:5
God’s Kingdom And we get to call this God, This King, Father
Genesis 1:26 NIV
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
This is a reclaiming of the call, made in Genesis Chapter 1.

Then and Now

But being a heir to God doesn’t just mean then after we die
It means now. We have eternal life now. We are part of the Kingdom of God. Which is the body of Believers . The Bride waiting for her Groom.
We have salvation. Salvation from the Punishment of our sins.
We have God’s promise:
He will be with us
He will hear us
He will speak to us
He will provide our needs
He will Come Back
He is preparing a room for us
He will not put anything before us that is not common to man
Meaning all temptation is normal nothing that can’t be over come in him.
It also means that just like in older days as it is today to an extent. We as heirs are representatives of God.
We are the ones who show others the way into the kingdom. We are the ones who need to be about the business of our father.
When we say to rule with Christ. To often we behave like the kings and Pharaohs of old. Ruling to fit our needs in our own selfish desires. Not ruling as God has images of God. Images of God rule with the love for creation, and a desire to see it reach its fullest. If we ruled in this way, it wouldn’t be common for mankind to be compared to as a virus. Which is a common SciFi theme. If we ruled our homes in the way that God rules it wouldn’t be a fear to submit to one another.
Can’t know what his business is if not spending time with him. That’s what Jesus said when Mary was looking for him Luke 2. Did you not know I had to be about my father house or where my father’s work is?
We are the ones who represent God in a fallen world. Because we are his Children. Because they will see God when they See Me. Or at least they should.

Next Steps

Do they?
Do you live as a child of God or is that just a catch Phrase you have used?
Does it really mean something To you?
Can you even say you are a child of God
If you can’t now is the time to accept him as your Father.
Accept
Believe
Commit
If you can:
Do you?
Is he your Father not meaning is he the one that you hate because you hate you earthly father
But as the father who Loves you
Will always be there
Won’t ever let you down
No matter what the world says
Or whatever you do
What an honor it is to be able to call him Father
And to be his heir
Let us live as heirs
