Thank you Pastor Case and Pastor Rustan for jumping in and running things so that I could concentrate on ministering to my family and my own grief. this has been by far the most painful loss I have ever experienced. Please continue to pray for my as I am working through some tremendous childhood trauma as things have come to light about my childhood that I am having to work through.
Two things I want to highlight before I get started this morning.
As this new year has begun already the news outlets are filled with dark future stories. The new COVID Strain, confict in congress, Wars and Rumors of Wars, continued inflation, food shortages, and on and on and on.
There are possible storms on the horizon.
The question for us Christians is

What are you going to do about it?

2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV
14 if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Beginning tomorrow morning a 6am we are going to seek pray and seek God’s Face for 21 Days.
Monday through Friday 6am
Saturdays at 9am
For 21 days I am inviting you to join with me..........
Secondly, I have felt lead to change up Wednesday nights. So beginning this Wednesday all adults will be meeting in the sanctuary.
Something Worth Fighting For:
If you have your Bibles would you turn with me to Romans chapter 10.
We are going to dive back into The Book of Romans.
If you are new with us we are working through the book of Romans which is actually a letter that the Apostle Paul wrote to a Group of Believers in Rome.
Paul had not had a chance to meet this group but felt compelled to write them a letter of encouragement on how to live as Christians. For the last several months we have been going through Romans verse by verse learning what God would speak to us today through this brilliant letter that is God Breathed and still living today.
What do I mean by God Breathed and Living.....
Today we are going to pick back up in Chapter 10.
Today’s Message is called the

Back to the Basics

I want to open with a question.

What is Salvation?

To put it simply!

Salvation is being in a right relationship with God.

Romans 10:1 ESV
1 Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.
Romans 10:2–3 ESV
2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
Romans 10:4 ESV
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Romans 7:4a (ESV)
4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ........
Galatians 4:4–5a (ESV)
4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those who were under the law.....
Romans 7:4 (ESV)
4 Likewise, my brothers, you also have died to the law through the body of Christ......
Paul is so repeatitive with this throughout this entire letter.
Why Because we don’t get it. We try to make it so much harder than it is....Instead of seeking a relationship or closeness with God we start making it about rules and regulations.
Once we begin to make it about rules and regulations then we begin to look at the what can I can get away with and still get into Heaven.
Then we start down a slippery slope.
But we don’t have to live there anymore......
Romans 10:4 (ESV)
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Romans 10:4 (ESV)
4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
Christ took the rules and regulations out and exchanged it for Relationship.
With Relationship comes Justification.

Justification is the act of God whereby the sinner is given faith to believe, receives forgiveness for all sin, and is assigned the righteousness of Christ.

Righteousness is no longer a thing you have to work for, now it is a thing that is assigned to you.
Romans 10:5 ESV
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.
Paul is echoing the word of Moses found in Deuteronomy 30:11-14
Deuteronomy 30:11–14 ESV
11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.
Moses is saying to the Isrealites you know what you need to do to please God. It is written on your mouth and your heart.
Paul echos Moses again in the following verses
Romans 10:6–7 ESV
6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
You don’t have go to heaven or to the grave to figure it out. God is right here. He is everywhere.... Paul is jumping back and forth although out the Old Testament to make his point here.
Psalm 139:7–8 ESV
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? 8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
My commentary put it this way.
Self Righteousness goes out searching for God, seeking to find him.
Righteousness by faith begins by submitting to God, allowing him to find us.
Church just like the the Israelites of old.
Romans 10:8 (ESV)
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
I have to say it!
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9 (ESV)
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:10 (ESV)
10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Justification is the act of God whereby the sinner is given faith to believe, receives forgiveness for all sin, and is assigned the righteousness of Christ.

Romans 10:10 (ESV)
10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:11 ESV
11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
Romans 10:11 M:BCL
11 Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this—heart and soul—will ever regret it.”
Romans 10:12 (ESV)
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
Romans 10:12 M:BCL
12 It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help.
Romans 10:13 (ESV)
13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Three People this morning
The one who has never Confessed
The One Stuck in the Law
The One Still Battling with their own Righteousness.
