Genesis 6 ESV
1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. 7 So the Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. 9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you are to make it: the length of the ark 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits. 16 Make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit above, and set the door of the ark in its side. Make it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 For behold, I will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy all flesh in which is the breath of life under heaven. Everything that is on the earth shall die. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come in to you to keep them alive. 21 Also take with you every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up. It shall serve as food for you and for them.” 22 Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.
An explanation of the text
v1-2 The sons of God/daughters of man
Don’t miss the main point - a new stage in the progress of evil, The boundaries of the Lord are transgressed even further.
Creation language: good/attractive married/took
The sons of Seth versus the sons of Cain Noah is a son of Seth
Sons of God - angels
They saw, the Lord saw in v5 their response and God’s response
The divine pattern for marriage is perverted
Genesis 1–11:26 (1) Sons of God and Daughters of Men (6:1–4)

More likely, as we find in the creation narrative (1:1–2:3) and the Tower of Babel (11:1–9), vv. 1–4 are a refutation of pagan stories that told of a race of superhuman giants. Ancient memory rightly reflected the distant past when fierce tyrants ruled the day, but the author of Genesis by relating the Nephilim to the wickedness of the times and their ensuing judgment showed that they were altogether mortal, not at all superhuman, and subject to the judgment of God. The biblical author not only “set the record straight” but also used it as testimony condemning the wicked generation, which deserved the cataclysmic flood to follow.

Genesis 1–11:26 (1) Sons of God and Daughters of Men (6:1–4)

Historically, three opinions have won a significant following for identifying the “sons of God”: (1) angels, (2) human judges or rulers, and (3) the descendants of Seth.

Jesus said that we shall be like angels, neither marrying or being given in marriage. Mark 12:25 - angles do not marry
“godly sons” - this sin would haunt the nation of Israel and the church - being unequally yoked
v3 The length of lives, God’s Spirit given, now taken

God says that his Spirit will not always protect mankind; in about 120 years he would destroy them.

the divine restriction of human life
man is mortal - corrupt, sinful
v4 The Nephilim
v5 The wickedness of men, e very intention of the thoughts of the heart
v6 The Lord regretted
v8,9 Noah is acknowledged as the hope of humanity and the recipient of God’s grace. he is righteous. He walked with God. Adam, Enoch
v11-13 - the earth is corrupt
v14-17 - the ark described
v18 - the covenant
v22 - the obedience and faith of Noah
(1) A God Who is Unchanging
The God who is timeless
The God who is invisible, immortal, almighty
The God who creates
The God who restores
The God who is holy - the boundaries of the Lord
The God who redeems
(2) A Kingdom Corrupted
The central motif of Scripture:
Is it Jesus? Is it salvation? Is it the glory of God?
The Kingdom of God - the Kingdom created, the kingdom corrupted, the kingdom rejected, the kingdom restarted
What man possesses, man corrupts
(3) A Deliverer Who is Chosen
Hebrews 11:6–7 ESV
6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.
The grace of the Lord, a righteousness from the Lord, blameless, walked with God
In a world of evil, we see the transforming power of God
The 5 Solas
Scripture alone - the Lord reveals and gives a written blueprint. The Lord has not keft us without
Grace alone - Noah found grace
Faith alone - By faith Noah believed
Christ alone - we see in Noah a deliverer
Paul asked, who can rescue me from this wretched body of sin? Only Jesus
in the fullness of time
for god so loved the world in it’s wickedness
but why?
The glory of God alone - why does the Lord continue to rescue and restore and redeem?
Not because we are worthy but because He will be glorified
