Introduction

The women seen the tomb.
Jesus was gone.
The Angel tells them that Jesus was not there but had risen.
John and Peter went to the tomb and was told the news of Jesus rising again.
the disciple returned to there homes, but understanding what was going on.
Now we continue.
John 20:11–14 NASB95
11 But Mary was standing outside the tomb weeping; and so, as she wept, she stooped and looked into the tomb; 12 and she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been lying. 13 And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.
This is a confusing time.
After the disciples left, Mary stays crying
She goes into the tomb and sees two Angels, one at the head and one at the feet where Jesus was laying.
We see here that Jesus was indeed risen.
The Angels as her why is she weeping.
When asking Mary where was she crying, it was not asking in a way to get information. But like !!!Why was you crying???!!!””
Mary was so emotional that she did not realize what was going on.
She turns around to see Jesus, but did not realize that it was Him
Have you ever had a sistatiuoin when you are so upset or emotional, that you dont realize what is right in front of you.
(getting shot, laying in the ice story)
(little girl lost her hat she was wearing story)
John 20:14–17 NASB95
14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing Him to be the gardener, she said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’ ”
Mary knew Jesus, She was with Him as He taught.
But she does not know that this is Jesus.
She was in high on emotions and did not see that it was her Lord that was talking to Her.
In her emotions she as Jesus to tell her where Jesus is, so she can get Him.
We know with this emotion that Jesus was indeed dead.
Jesus calls her by name, and she “turned” meaning to have a change of position, a different view.
(3D glasses story) change in perspective .
Mary noticed it was Jesus.
John 20:17 NASB95
17 Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’ ”
Jesus tell her not to hold on to Him
This is consider to be a difficult verse
“stop clinging” to make close contact. to touch, to take hold of.
Mary is expressing a need or desire to hold on to Jesus
Jesus tells her not the hold on to Him, He has risen
Mary is hanging on to Jesus, some believe to keep him in the World,
But Jesus says not the hang on to Him but to “go”
Jesus personally give Mary (A Woman) the assignment to tell them the Jesus has risen and is going back to God
Matthew 15:8 NASB95
8This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me.
So what did Mary do?
John 20:18 NASB95
18 Mary Magdalene came, announcing to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and that He had said these things to her.
Mary was obedient in share the news to His disciples

v.19-22

Now the disciples get this word of His resurrection.
Now it is that night.
Word may have gotten out that Jesus was gone.
lets not forget............
Matthew 28:11–15 NASB95
11 Now while they were on their way, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all that had happened. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 and said, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came by night and stole Him away while we were asleep.’ 14 “And if this should come to the governor’s ears, we will win him over and keep you out of trouble.” 15 And they took the money and did as they had been instructed; and this story was widely spread among the Jews, and is to this day.
V. 19-22
John 20:19 NASB95
19 So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.”
So it is night
word got out.
The disciples are all together and unsure on what to do.
They are in fear because what is stopping to Jew to come after them in search for the body of Jesus.
so in fear the doors a locked and they are together hiding out.
a lot is going on.
And Jesus says to them Peace, be with you.
in the Hebrew culture Peace is wishing one to be well ad to have a happy life.
when Jesus says Peace be with you. We know that the war with God and them is over.
Because they are in Christ, and He died and rose again, they have peace.
John 20:20–22 NASB95
20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Jesus appears to them. and showed Himself to them.
They were not looking at a ghost.
The disciples rejoiced because they saw the Lord.
the horrors of the crucifixion
Jesus was indeed dead.
they rejoiced because it was no longer word of mouth, but they sen themselves.
John 20:22–23 NASB95
22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 “If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.”
Jesus gives them a mission.
To be a teacher and preacher of the Word of God. It is not a easy task.
It is hard to teach something that you are not qualified for.
(“dont tell mom... story)
Jesus breathes on them, giving them the honor and power to preach and teach the gospel
He breathed on them, giving them them Holy Spirit,

v. 23

This does not mean that Jesus gives the authority to Christians to forgive sins.
Jesus was saying that the believer can boldly declare the certainty of a sinner’s forgiveness.by the Father
because of what Jesus did, if a sinner has repented and believed the gospel
When Preaching the gospel we have a hope that we can give to people
John 20:24–26 NASB95
24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” 26 After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.”
Thomas and his doubt, He did not believe.
He was strong in this.
but 8 days later, the disciples again were together, but this time Thomas was with them.
Jesus appears again and says Peace be with you.
John 20:27–28 NASB95
27 Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” 28 Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
Jesus does not rebuke Thomas’ doubt.
but lovingly gives Thomas instruction of His living and His resurrection
Thomas said My Lord and My God.
Thomas declares his belief in the resurrection and the deity of Jesus the Messiah
John 20:29 NASB95
29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”
John 20:30–31 NASB95
30 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
John makes sure to share that other things happened.
They Jesus did other great things.
But this book, this testimony, was so that we may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
so that you may believe.
