Isaiah 9:1-7
A dark day
Ahaz is king
Ahaz is a wicked king
2 Kings 16:1-4- In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Jotham, king of Judah, began to reign. Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God, as his father David had done, but he walked in the way of the kings of Israel. He even burned his son as an offering, according to the despicable practices of the nations whom the Lord drove out before the people of Israel. And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.
God has even told Ahaz to ask Him to work for him and Judah, and Ahaz utterly rejects the offer
He even packages it as “not wanting to test the Lord”
This is the final straw for God to definitively decide to bring judgment on Judah
The northern kingdom is about to go into captivity
The Assyrians are soon coming to carry Israel away
The Assyrian campaign will even spill deep into Judah
Isaiah 8:5-8- Bible
The people are twisted
Isaiah 8:11-12- Bible
Isaiah 8:19-21- Bible
Judgment is decreed
Isaiah 8:22- Bible
A time of horrible judgment is coming upon them for their sin
A promised light
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light
They have walked in the darkness of destruction and exile
They have walked in the darkness of oppression and hardship
They have walked in the darkness of 400 year silence from God
They have walked in spiritual darkness of unbelief
A promised one will shine light on them
A child
a son

The Word in John 1
John 1:1-5- In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
He will not be like King Ahaz
He will not be self-serving
He will not neglect His people
He will not be ungodly
He will not
An everlasting King and kingdom
He will rule in the line of David
The greatest king that Israel had ever seen
The man after God’s heart
The man who failed miserably
Parenting failures
Marital failures
Adultery
Murder
Lacking faith in God
The Son of David will be everything that David couldn’t
He will not just be the best King, He will be the perfect King
He will rule in peace
War and conflict has marked and ravaged Israel
War and conflict has marked and ravaged all of human history
War and conflict will be nowhere to be found in His eternal kingdom
He will rule in ever-increasing unchallenged dominion
There will be no successors to the throne
There will be no threats to His kingship
He will
He will rule in perfect justice and righteousness
There will be no sin passed over
There will be no inconsistency in Him or His law
There will be not unrighteousness in His law
He will rule forever
He will have no end to His Kingship
He will be our King for endless ages of years
His name is Jesus
For unto you is born this day
Luke 1:31-33- And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 2:11- For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Praise God for our King
Luke 2:14- “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
He was born to live, to die, to rise, and to reign
Philippians 2:5-11- Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Don’t stumble over Him this Christmas
Isaiah 8:13-15- Bible
Love Him
2 Timothy 4:8- Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.
