I Corinthians 6:9-20, Glorify God in Your Body and Spirit.
We need to grow by practicing God’s Word.
We should not try to see what we can get away with.
The Bible gives us principles--God’s standard for helping us.
We need to repent of sinful things.
If we sin, we need to confess the sin to God.
What can I do to please the Lord?
The Bible is God’s Word.
Where do we draw the line?
(1) We draw the line on anything that is not expedient [healthy].
[Ephesians 5:26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.
I Corinthians 6:12: All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any].
“All things” is not a license to sin.
Our destination is to be like Christ.
(2) We draw the line on things that enslave [to exercise authority over us].
Freedom is not power to do as we please.
[I Corinthians 6:12: All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any].
“Any” is anything.
[Ephesians 2:3: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Psalm 139:23-24: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Galatians 5:25: If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit].
We should not get addicted to things that hinder us.
(3) We draw the line on anything that does not edify [to build up].
If we are building up, we are not tearing down.
[Acts 20:32: And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified].
Will it build up others in their lives?
1) Does it help me along my Christ life?
2) Would I allow me to be free or become my slave?
3) Does it build up others?
