And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Making Room For For Jesus
INTRODUCTION:
As we approach the New Year, our thoughts turn to new experiences.
As I read the passage of Scripture above, let us not forget to make room for Jesus in our lives no matter how busy we become.
And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread. And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually. Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
I. THE MANGER
A. Desires the coldness of the world (no room).
In houses
And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

B. Describes the confusion of the world.
All the prophets told place, manner, and time of His birth.
There was no room.
But there is room in:
1. In Pilate’s Hall
2. On Calvary’s Cross
3. In Joseph’s tomb
III. THE MEN
A. They were Faithful—Verse 8—Abiding in the field.
B. They were Favored—Verse 9—By a visit from angel By a vision—glory shone about them.
C. They were Frightened—Verse 9.
1. God’s mercy produces love and compassion.
2. God’s glory always produces fright.
3. Isaiah 6—“Woe is Me”
4. Acts 9—Paul fell to the ground.
5. In Revelation John fell like a dead man.
