Love is an Important Theme

260 Chapters in the entire New Testament

This word “love” in both its noun and verb forms is used 258 times in the New Testament.

Three words for love in the Greek:

Phileo

Eros

Agape

We view love mostly through the lenses of an emotional type of love or a sexual expression of love.

Love at first sight

People and things we have emotional attachments to.

People and things that we like.

God primarily loves us with a love that is not rooted in emotion, but the will. (1 Corinthians 13)

It is a superior love.

Love rooted in emotion or physical attraction is not stable.

Love rooted in emotion or attraction leads people to not do what is best for the one who is loved.

It is a radical love.

It is a sacrificial love.

It is a justifying love.

It is a saving love.

It is a reconciling love.

It is a gift. v. 17

You receive it by faith.
