The Ministries of Jesus Week 4

Healing

Robert Morris

We’re in a series called The Ministries of Jesus
We’ve covered Salvation, Mending, Freedom, and now Healing
Mending was emotional; This week is spiritual and physical healing

Luke 4:18

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind
Recovery of sight to the blind. “The gaining of sight”
The reason I want to put these together is because the Bible does
Let me show you the opening of spiritual and physical eyes

Mark 8:22

Then He came to Bethsaida; and they brought a blind man to Him, and begged Him to touch him.

Mark 8:23

So He took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the town. And when He had spit on his eyes and put His hands on him, He asked him if he saw anything.

Mark 8:24

And he looked up and said, “I see men like trees, walking.”

Mark 8:25

Then He put His hands on his eyes again and made him look up. And he was restored and saw everyone clearly.
I heard a person on TV say,
“You see, even with Jesus it didn’t always work the first time!”
I knew that was wrong, so I decided I was going to figure it out.
After 3 hours, the Lord spoke to me and said, “What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to figure this out with no help from you I might add!”
He said, “Do you think I know what it means?” I said, “Of course you do.”
He said, “Then why don’t you just ask me.”
So, I did, and the answer was there immediately!
Jesus laid his hands on him and asked him what he saw.
Jesus opened his spiritual eyes!
In the Bible, men are likened to trees in the spiritual.

Psalm 1:1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

Psalm 1:2

but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:3

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water

Psalm 52:8

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God

Psalm 92:12

The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree

Jeremiah 17:7

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.

Jeremiah 17:8

For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters”

Zechariah 4:11

Then I answered and said to him, “What are these two olive trees—at the right of the lampstand and at its left?”

Zechariah 4:14

So he said, “These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.”
Zechariah saw olive trees, but they were men!

Revelation 11:3

“And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.”

Revelation 11:4

These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands standing before the God of the earth.
Jesus put his hands on him and asked him if he saw anything
He opened his spiritual eyes first, and then his physical eyes!
What have I told you about understanding scripture?
Read the context. He had just fed 4000 people.
Then the Pharisees asked for a sign! Talk about spiritual blindness!

Mark 8:13

And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side.

Mark 8:14

Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat.

Mark 8:15

Then He charged them, saying, “Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”

Mark 8:16

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have no bread.”

Mark 8:17

But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “Why do you reason because you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart still hardened?

Mark 8:18

Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

Mark 8:19

When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him, “Twelve.”

Mark 8:20

“Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?" And they said, “Seven.”

Mark 8:21

So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?”
If I wanted bread, I’d just whip us some up! (1 loaf and 13 dudes!)
I meant beware of the teaching of the Pharisees!
We need our spiritual eyes opened!
You have eyes but you can’t see! Men have “eyes but they can’t see!”
Women can see better than men.
My wife can find clothes in a closet that aren’t there.
I’ll ask Debbie where my black shirt with the snaps is
She told me, “You have eyes, but you can’t see!”
No! You’re a voodoo woman! I said I “love you woman!”
Would you like your spiritual eyes opened?
Would you like for the Bible to jump off the page to you?
Would you like to be able to see what’s going on in the spirit?
But if you’re sick or a friend or family member is
Would it be all right with you if Jesus still heals!
Well, He does because Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
God heals 3 ways, but we normally forget the first 2!
God heals naturally, medically, and miraculously
God designed your body to heal itself or to heal naturally
Let me just give you 2 examples of natural healing
God gave you white blood cells
To attack unknown organisms from injuries and illnesses
God also gave you platelets that stop an injury from bleeding by clotting
Otherwise, every time you cut yourself, you would bleed to death
God also heals medically! In the same way that God gifts teachers to help us
And counselors to help us heal emotionally
God gifts medical professionals to help us heal medically
I’m alive today because God healed me naturally, medically, and miraculously!
How many of you have ever had stitches, a broken bone?
Minor surgery, major surgery, or cosmetic surgery? (Just kidding)
We’re going to pray for everyone who needs physical or spiritual healing
I put these together because the Bible does many, many times!
Jesus opened this guy’s spiritual eyes and natural eyes were opened

Psalm 103:2

Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits:

Psalm 103:3

who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases

Isaiah 33:24

And the inhabitant will not say, “I am sick”; the people who dwell in it will be forgiven their iniquity.

1 Peter 2:24

who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.
Notice sin and sickness in the same verse, forgiveness and healing
Peter says He bore our sins.
Did He bare our sickness also?

Isaiah 53:4

Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows

Matthew 8:16

When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,

Matthew 8:17

that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”
So, if He bore our sicknesses, why do we still get sick?
Remember, He bore our sins also, but do we still sin?
So even though He bore our sicknesses, have you ever gotten sick
We have been saved from the penalty of sin and
We are being saved from the power of sin
And we will be saved from the presence of sin and sickness!
But God still heals today! Naturally, medically, and miraculously
I want to give you an example of all 3
Bridgette was on the worship team one weekend
I looked up and the Lord said to me, “Bridgette’s pregnant!”
We had family dinner that night and I said, “I have an announcement!”
She had been praying someone would give them a word
The doctor said you’re not, but you need to start taking progesterone
She went back in a month, and she was pregnant when God gave the word
God gave the word (miraculously – I saw in the spirit) Her body responded naturally, and the medicine helped her!
God heals us spiritually and physically!
Jesus came to give recovery of sight to the blind!
We’re going to pray for spiritual and natural healing today!
