The Word is God
Before He Became Flesh, John Called Him “The Word”
God in communication = God expressing Himself
Gen 1.1 “1 In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
Col 1.19 “19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,”
John 14:10 “10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works.”
It is fundamental to John that the Word is not to be included among created things.
“In the beginning” (with all the fullness of meaning that these words can hold) the Word “was.”
“He is seen as greater than all things, greater than time, changeless as eternity” (Guthrie).
The high point is reached in the third affirmation: “the Word was God.” Nothing higher could be said: all that may be said about God may fitly be said about the Word.
Yet separate from God

The Word-Made-Flesh Existed as God and with God before He Was Born as a Man on Earth

The Word-Made-Flesh Has Life in Himself, and That Life Becomes the Light of Men
He is Life and Light = the living power to see and the all satisfying spender to be seen
This Gospel constantly associates life with the Word.
He came that people might have life and have it more abundantly (10:10).
He died so that people might have everlasting life (3:16).
He gave his flesh for the life of the world (6:51).
Only those who eat his flesh and drink his blood have life (6:53–54), and similarly only those who come to him have life (5:40).
When he gives life people perish no more (10:28).
Twice he said that he is “the life” (11:25; 14:6)
The first recorded words of God are “Let there be light” (Gen.
1:3), and in this chapter the Word is the source of light.
All the light we have, whether we walk in it or turn our backs on it, we owe to the Word.
Jhn 8.12 “12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
Jhn 12.46 “46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
Jn 14.6 “6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”
The Name of the Word-Made-Flesh on Earth Is Jesus Christ
He is Jesus Christ after he is made flesh: Savior and God-anointed King of all.
Lk 1.31 “31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.”
Matt 1.21 “21 She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.””
Act 4.12 “12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.””
The Word is God.
Creation took place through The Word.
The Word took on flesh and dwelt among men.
The Word is life and light to all mankind.
The Word is Jesus the Christ!
