The Generational God

James Morris
Brae – papaw story
There is meaning in His name.
We are all about people.
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob God is a multi-generational God.
Use Whiteboard on stage here:
-Abraham - Son at 100 and lived to 175.
-Isaac was 60 years old when he had Jacob. He died at 180.
-Jacob was 84 when He had kids. He was 147 when He died.

Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Hebrews 11:9

By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise
Tell me the time you tried to kill Dad. Story
Every time God refers to Himself, He is telling us about who He is.
Unite with those that are older.
Proverbs 20:29 (ESV)
The glory of young men is their strength, but the splendor of old men is their gray hair.

Proverbs 16:31 (ESV)

Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.

1 Timothy 5:1 (ESV)

Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers,

1 Timothy 5:2 (ESV)

older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.
Steve Dulin - Story
It would help if you had mentors in your life.

3. Unite with those that are younger.

1 Timothy 5:1 (ESV)
Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers,

1 Timothy 5:2 (ESV)

older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.

1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV)

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.
Job
Job’s three friends:
Eliphaz
Bildad
Zophar
After seven days, Job opened his mouth and cursed his day of birth.
Elihu spoke up.

Job 38:4 (ESV)

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?”

Job 38:5 (ESV)

“Who determined its measurements? Surely you know!”

Job 38:12 (ESV)

“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place”

Job 38:22

“Have you entered the treasury of snow, or have you seen the treasury of hail”

Job 39:26

“Does the hawk fly by your wisdom”

Job 39:27

“Does the eagle mount up at your command”
Job responds to God.
God says:
Eliphaz the Temanite,
My wrath is aroused and against you and your two friends.
You have not spoken of me what is right.
Eliphaz and two friends now need to take seven bulls and seven rams to Job and offer a sacrifice.
Then have Job pray for them.
When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored Job.
The Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.
We can see things older can’t, and we can see things younger can’t. We need each other.
Don’t talk to strangers. - Story

Psalm 71:17 (ESV)

O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds.

Psalm 71:18 (ESV)

So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.
Sometimes we are Abraham, Isaac, and sometimes Jacob in the situation. Don’t only change your generation. Change the world in which you live.
Story of an older person in a Taxi.
Not always a mentorship, but a divine appointment.
Since our God is a generational God, we need to be generational people. Pray
