Spaghetti and blankets!

Genesis 39:7

And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on
Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”

Genesis 39:8

But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand.

Genesis 39:9

There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?”

Genesis 39:10

So it was, as she spoke to Joseph day by day, that he did not heed her, to lie with her or to be with her.

Genesis 39:11

But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside,

Genesis 39:12

that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fledand ranoutside.
This is congruent with 1 Cor 6:18 Flee sexual immorality!
• Sexual Purity is a character issue and like all character issues,
• It is a part of our foundation as a person.
1. Impurity affects your family.

2 Samuel 11:2

Then it happened one evening that David arose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king’s house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold.

2 Samuel 13:1

After this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David lovedher.

2 Samuel 13:2

Amnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her.

Deuteronomy 27:22

“‘Cursed is the one who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’”

2 Samuel 13:3

But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man.

2 Samuel 13:4

And he said to him, “Why are you, the king’s son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?” Amnon said to him, “I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

2 Samuel 13:5

So Jonadab said to him, “Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, ‘Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.’”

2 Samuel 13:6

Then Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, “Please let Tamar my sister come and make a couple of cakes for me in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.”

2 Samuel 13:7

And David sent home to Tamar, saying, “Now go to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare food for him.”

2 Samuel 13:8

So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. Then she took flour and kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

2 Samuel 13:9

And she took the pan and placed them out before him, but he refused to eat. Then Amnon said, “Have everyone go out from me.” And they all went out from him.

2 Samuel 13:10

Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand.” And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother in the bedroom.

2 Samuel 13:11

Now when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, “Come, lie with me, my sister.”

2 Samuel 13:12

But she answered him, “No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing should be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing!

2 Samuel 13:13

And I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”

2 Samuel 13:14

However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her.

2 Samuel 13:15

Amnon hated her exceedingly
, so that the
hatred
greater
than the
love
with which he had
loved
Then with which he hated her was her. And Amnon said to her,
“Arise, be gone!”

2 Samuel 13:16

So she said to him, “No, indeed! This evil of sending me away is worse than the other that you did to me.” But he would not listen to her.

2 Samuel 13:17

Then he called his servant who attended him, and said, “Here! Put this woman out, away from me, and bolt the door behind her.”
Love can turn to lust and when lust is fulfilled
• It can turn to hate! Why didn’t David see through this?
• Because he had opened the door to impurity himself!
2. Impurity affects your faith.
If we’re going to get married, what difference does a piece of paper make?
• None! It’s the consequences of impurity that make the difference!
• God is not a prude! It’s for our good! Don’t play in the street!
When you walk in sexual impurity, you learn how to lie and be deceptive
• You develop an appetite for sneaking around sex
• Once you get married, you don’t have to sneak around anymore!
This is why a person will begin to flirt at work (Romance –
Gardening #12)
• Then he has that same excitement with her and thinks it’s love
• Divorces you and marries her and the cycle starts over again
What if we’ve fallen? Treat it as sin! Confess and repent!
James 1:14 (NASB1995)
But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.

James 1:15 (NASB1995)

Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

James 1:16 (NASB1995)

Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
All Sexual Immorality has as its foundation: Deception.
• You cannot have intimacy with God and walk in immorality! • If you walk in any form of sexual immorality,
• You train yourself to walk in deception.
You come to Church with your arms raised but your heart covered.
• You learn how to have a covered, hiding relationship with God.
• You learn how to pray covered prayers!
Satan gets into your character and you become a liar and a deceiver!
• You learn how to lie and how to deceive!
• Purity demands transparency!
If you allow sexual impurity to remain in your life,
• You learn how to resist, how to stiff arm, the Holy Spirit.
• You resist the Holy Spirit’s promptings
Your relationship with God and your family have been affected and
• Some of you don’t even know it!
One couple committing adultery told me they prayed together!
• That is the height of deception!
3. Impurity affects your future.
It looked like Joseph had nothing to lose. He was an enslaved person.
• Your brothers have ruined your destiny
• The only one who can thwart your destiny is you!
Proverbs 7:18
“Come, let us take our fill of love until morning; let us delight ourselves with love.
Proverbs 7:19
For my husband is not at home; he has gone on a long journey;

Proverbs 7:20

he has taken a bag of money with him, and will come home on the appointed day.”

Proverbs 7:21

With her enticing speech she caused him to yield, with her flattering lips she seduced him.

Proverbs 7:22

Immediately he went after her, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks,

Proverbs 7:23

till an arrow struck his liver. As a bird hastens to the snare, he did not know it would cost his life.

Proverbs 7:26

for she has cast down many wounded, and allwho were slain by her were strong men.
What will keep us pure when we think no one will find out •And we think we have nothing to lose?
• Only our intimacy with God!
Sex is about intimacy
• Immoral sex is false intimacy!
He had everything to lose!
• His future depended on this test!
• His dream and his destiny hinged on this test!
I’m not saying that if you’ve fallen in this area, you’ve forfeited your destiny
• But if you continue to walk in impurity, it will affect your destiny!
• And it will cost you more than you think!
4. Impurity begins in the eyes.
Impurity does not begin in the heart.
•It begins in the eyes!

Genesis 39:7

And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on
Joseph, and she said, “Lie with me.”

Matthew 5:28

“But I say to you that whoever looksat a woman to lustfor her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Psalm 101:3
I will set nothing wicked before my eyes
Proverbs 27:20
Hell and Destruction are never full; so the eyesof man are never satisfied.

Matthew 6:22

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eyeis good, your whole body will be full of light.
Matthew 6:23
But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.”

Job 31:1

“I have made a covenant with my eyes; why then should I lookupon a young woman?”
My youth pastor said the second look is lust
• So I just took one long first look!
Don’t look at pornography! Don’t look at a person sexually attractive!
• Don’t look at someone at work! Joseph was a handsome man!
• Don’t look at movies with nudity! (jogging women)
Confess it to your wife! Write these two words down: Struggle together!
• Ladies, please let him confess!
• He doesn’t have a problem with love! It’s lust!
Lust is never love!
• Potiphar’s wife didn’t have a problem with love
• If she had loved him, she wouldn’t have let him sit in prison
It’s the lust of the flesh. It’s like Krispy Kreme doughnuts!
• It’s been 3 months! I just need one… dozen!
• It’s not a problem with love! It’s an unhealthy appetite
The man is simply telling you I have an unhealthy appetite
He’s not saying he doesn’t love you or desire you any more!
• The hardest thing for people to forgive is the lying!
I told Debbie my whole past. I knew you were bad when I married you
•I didn’t know you were that bad, but I also saw transparency • I saw a desire in you to serve God!
I asked Debbie to confront me and pray for me.
• Thou shalt not pinch and twist! “Do I need to pray for you?”
• Look at the book! Look at the book!
