Misconceptions of God’s Amazing Grace

Deuteronomy 6:1-5

I. Does not give us a license to be careless in approaching God’s word (vs1)

•  a. Christian life is one of growth---we’re to be growing everyday. There is no where in scripture that tells us its okay to be stagnant in our walk with the Lord. What are the qualities that are necessary for spiritual growth?

§         1. Attached to the vine John 15:5  5          I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Growth has to have a source. We must have the strength that God gives to live the Christian life. We must be plugged in !

§         2. We must be nourished in the Word--- We must partake in God’s word that our soul’s be feed with the living word. There are many Christians today that are walking around malnourished and its affecting them and those around them…..

§         3. We must be open to what God tells us to do. – learning to trust Him more and more--He is the doctor. Have you ever known someone who will go to the doctor for his medical opinion and not follow it. My grandfather latter in life….. We’re the same when we come to His word and not allow it to apply!

( 90+ yr old rededicating life……

  b. Christian life is one of obedience(observe them) God expects us to live by these. (crossing over) When we’re saved we don’t throw away the instructions. In verse 3 we see that blessings are tied to obedience( be careful) There was always a danger that the new generation would become proud and think that God had blessed them because they were better than previous generations. Moses reminded them that all their blessings came from the Lord because of His covenant with their fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Friends can I tell you today that we are living on borrowed blessings from the previous Generation. The misconception of God’s amazing grace is that is will always be as it is in this country. Hear me God is no respector on people or nations. The Bible says in Psalms 9: 17 17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

2Thess.1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, 8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

II. Does not give us a license to lessen our fear for God (vs.2)

•  a. We cannot pick and choose what to obey. (all)  When our fear level in the Lord goes down we begin to analyze His word and come to it as we would a cafeteria line in a restaurant

•  b. Healthy fear (prolonged life)----many today are searching for avenues for longer life. We take vitamins and run up and down the road trying to keep in the best of physical shape and there is nothing wrong with that as long as that is not the primary source that we’re believing in to live longer. Many will trust the word of the doctor rather that the word of the Lord when it comes to living longer. What does the word say? Rd. Why should strive for our fear for the Lord be healthy?

•      1. For our Heritage

•      2. Children and grandchildren

III. God knows I love Him

  a. He commands us to show Him.- Not that He doesn’t already know whether or not but that we might know truth( a command vs5) Is it possible to command somebody to love? Isn’t love a mysterious thing that just appears, a wonderful emotion that’s either there or it isn’t there? No, not according to Scripture. In the life of the believer, love is an act of the will: we choose to relate to God and to other persons in a loving way no matter how we may feel. Christian love simply means that we treat others the way God treats us. In His love, God is kind and forgiving toward us, so we seek to be kind and forgiving toward others (Eph. 4:32). Eph 4:32

32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

God wills the very best for us, so we desire the very best for others, even if it demands sacrifice on our part. Love isn’t simply an exotic feeling; love leads to action.( those who have never met Jesus Christ don’t know what true love is) The virtues of love that are listed in 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 describe how we treat people and not just how we feel about them.

… suffers long, envieth not,  is not puffed up, 5        Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6    Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

To love God and worship and serve Him is the highest privilege we can ever  have, so when the Lord commands us to love, He is inviting us to that which is the best.

• Love leads to action (John 3:16) “God so loved … that he gave” (John 3:16).

• Jn 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him

•  Heart------ Soul---- might---

•  All that is within you

Are there any misconceptions in your life today pertaining to the Lord?

Are you careless with the word of God in your life? Are you growing?

How’s your fear of Him today? Is it healthy?  Is He Lord and Savior of your life?

How’s your love life with God today? Jesus said our love for Him should be the supreme love in our lives. If we get that right, we can love as none other. Jesus said in Matt 10:37 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
