We all live in the providential love of God everyday. It's when we recognize His generosity and our hearts are stirred with gratitude that our lives are holistically changed and shaped by Him.
11 On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance 13 and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” 14 When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; 16 and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

Not allowed to worship in the temple
Not allowed to pray in the temple
Not allowed to attend Synagogue to hear the Word taught
Socially rejected
Not allowed to go to the market
Not allowed to live in the city
Not allowed to approach people closely
Spiritual Lepers - Obvious Sin disease
Relationally Separate
Not able to truly know God
Not able to know truth
Live in restless contention only able find temporary escapes rather than healing, hope, or peace.
Everything is an empty cheap substitute without God.
Need to cry out for mercy.
Mercy is God’s love intervening on behalf of the miserable.
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
To have a gratitude shaped life, we should always have before us a growing realization of just how much we need and depend on God for life!

9 of those healed went about their own business.
They were healed on their way to the priest.
They would have undoubtedly shown themselves to the priest, been declared clean and reinstated to society and the religious order.
Where did they go?
Back to their families?
Back to their friends?
Back to their employers?
To the tavern?
Back to life as usual...
We don’t know where they went, but we do know where they didn’t go…back to Jesus!
One returned to the Master
He didn’t care about societal reinstatement.
He didn’t care about religious reinstatement.
He cared about humbly thanking the One who made Him well.
He was also a Samaritan...
Samaritans and Jews generally hated and despised one another.
He whom should not have even been addressed or recognize by a Jew is now returning to a Jew, falling at his feet, and thanking him while praising God!
If we want a gratitude shaped life, we need to continually have our mind and hearts set on seeking out the Master, falling at His feet and praising God!
Once we’ve encountered Jesus, we can’t just go back to life as usual. We can’t be like the nine and just go back about our business.
Once we have been healed by Jesus, He is our business! We must recognize that He is our everything!

Ten were made well, but only one was made whole!
This one had faith-driven, gratitude shaping, life.
Not a casual faith…but an all-forsaking faith that He might bow at the feet of the One who made Him clean…inside and out.
This one went the rest of his life with a new heart, a new mind, and new understanding of what it means to truly live!

ARE YOU LIVING A GRATITUDE SHAPED LIFE?
HAS GOD’S MERCY CHANGED YOUR HEART FROM MISERABLE TO JOYFUL?
I don’t know if those nine who never came back and recognize what Jesus did for them are in heaven, but I do know the one who was grateful is.
