Hope: A Light Has Dawned
As we begin the Advent season let us begin with a word of Hope.
Paul tells us that it is time; time to wake.
11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep.
For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.

Is Salvation a process?
Does it really come in stages or all at once?
What does the Bible have to say?
What I would say is that what Paul is alluding to is spiritual Orientation.
I enjoy golfing and a pastor friend of mine used to remind me when I hit an errand shot that my towards was off.
Why did this annoy me?
Because it seemed that the weakest part of my game was not usually how far I hit the ball but in which direction it travelled.
Addressing the ball and orientation are very important to accuracy.
Jesus is our orientation; he sets our towards.
Knowing where to look for Jesus is like finding a treasure at the end of the rainbow, Jesus shows us the way.
Because we have great hope in our salvation, and that Jesus shows us the way, we look forward to seeing the rising sun.
We can reference this hope in the next verse, 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand.
So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

This verse references the closeness of the coming Messiah, or the Second Coming of Jesus.
I am reminded of this every morning when I stand in the kitchen and face the East and watch the rising sun.
Many homes have been built in orientation to the rising sun.
The rising sun reminds us that the Second Coming of Jesus is close and we must walk as in the light of the son and not in darkness.
Wake up! 13 Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy.

Paul uses quite a selection of words to describe what was going on during his time with the Romans.
Things are different now, right?
But how much different are things today than then.
35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer.
Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you.
The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

If we walk in the light we will put off the things of the flesh.
Rising to see the morning sunrise gives me hope.
We bury our people who have moved on facing the rising sun so that each new day they can wait for the coming of the Son.
We are Justified, or made right when we are given our Salvation; we hope for the day when we see Him face-to-face so that we will reap the rewards of that faith.
The culmination of that faith and the rewards are complete in His return.
