The hope of Christmas is the hope for rescue. This rescue compels us to tell others about the eternal hope available in Christ.

I. A People Hoping for Rescue. (Romans 15:8)

Romans 15:8 – “For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs,”

Genesis 3:15 – “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

Deuteronomy 18:15 – “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—”

Isaiah 7:14 – “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Micah 5:2 – “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”

Hosea 11:1 – “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.”

II. A Hope for the Nations. (Romans 15:9-12)

Romans 15:9-12 “and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, “Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.” And again it is said, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.” And again, “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him.” And again Isaiah says, “The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.””

2 Samuel 22:50 – “For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to your name.”

Psalm 18:49 – “For this I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations, and sing to your name.”

Deuteronomy 32:43 – “Rejoice with him, O heavens”

Psalm 117:1 – “Praise the Lord, all nations! Extol him, all peoples!”

Ezekiel 37:27-28 – “My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.””

Isaiah 11:1 – “There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit.”

Luke 1:50 – “And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.”

Romans 9:16 – “So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.”

Ephesians 2:4-5 – “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved”

Philippians 1:6 – “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

III. Abound in Hope Abroad. (Romans 15:13)

Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

Psalm 130:5 – “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope;”

Romans 5:3-5 – “…we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

Hebrews 7:19 “(for the law made nothing perfect); but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.”
