Withstanding in the Evil Day

Ephesians 6:10–18 NKJV
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—

The Christian life is filled with “good days”

We experience good because we have a good Father God
James 1:17 NKJV
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

The Christian often encounters “evil days”

We must “withstand” in the evil day

“Withstanding” involves Resistance
Who do we withstand?
The Evil One: The Devil / Satan
Acts 10:38 NKJV
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.
Matthew 6:13 NKJV
And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Ephesians 6:11 NKJV
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
James 4:6–7 NKJV
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
How do we withstand?
In the strength of the Lord
In the power of His might
How are we to stand?
With the armor of God (defensive & offensive)

Having done all

Ephesians 6:13 NKJV
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ephesians 6:13 AMP
Therefore put on God’s complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].
Stand (and keep on standing)
Pray always (pray without ceasing)
With all prayer (petitions)
With all supplication (divine entreaty) in the Spirit
Be watchful
With all perseverance (persistence)
With all supplication (divine entreaty)
For all the saints (the saved and set apart for God)
