Mantles & The Double Portion

Tell the “new clothes” and mantle story.
Mantle - A cloak or overcoat.
A mantle is passed down generations to carry on the same divine assignment.
Mantles are symbolic of a continuing ministry.
And within the mantle, there is gifting and the equipment that God gives to the person to accomplish the job.
“When it comes to a mantle there’s a call, and within the mantle, there’s a blending of that which was combined with a little bit of you that still exists” - Roberts Liardon
In other words, the calling of God upon their life lies within the mantle.

How Do Mantles differ from Anointings, Callings And Impartation?

Anointings and giftings can be imparted. Mantles cannot be imparted.
An individual can be called of God and therefore anointed for the work of ministry and not have a mantle.
Mantles are a continuation of a person’s ministry that has already passed away and now rests upon another individual.
Mantles aren’t given away freely, but have to be pursued/picked up.
An individual must be tailored to fit the mantle.

How Do You Know if You Have A Mantle?

First of all you, a mantle operates differently than an anointing or an impartation.
You can have an anointing or an impartation from a certain individual but not received their mantle.
Mantles are passed down by the death of the one possessing the Mantle.
A key indication that a “mantle” has been passed down is when a ministry operates in the same magnitude as one that has gone on before it.
The Mantle had to be picked up. (You Fought For to obtain it.)
What are the gifts inside the mantle? How did they get the mantle? How did they live?
2. You walk in high level of dominion in the spirit realm.
3. The fruit of the mantle manifests in your life by capturing the attention of a church, city, or generation.
There are mantles that rested over cities and nations.
“A mantle spiritually speaking, is an enhanced force of God that is working through a person to set a major definition or establishment of truth.” Roberts Liardon

Where is the Lord, God of Elijah?

2 Kings 2:8–14 (ESV)
8 Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.
9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please let there be a double portion of your spirit on me.”
10 And he said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you, but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.”
11 And as they still went on and talked, behold, chariots of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it and he cried, “My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.
13 And he took up the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
14 Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.
1. Elisha tore apart his own cloak in grief.
2. Elisha struck the water with Elijah’s mantle, and said, “Where is the LORD God of Elijah?”
This question did not express doubt or unbelief but merely afforded opportunity for God to show that He was with Elisha as He had been with Elijah.
Elisha didn’t just want the mantle, but he wanted a double portion.

The Secret to Obtaining Dominion is Persistence.

2 Kings 13:18 ESV
18 And he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, “Strike the ground with them.” And he struck three times and stopped.
The text goes on to say that Elisha was mad that he didn’t strike the ground more times. Why?

The Ministry of Mantles

1. Elijah went up and Elisha recieved his mantle.
2. Jesus went up and his disciples recieved his mantle.

There Are Two Different Types of Cloaks.

Cloaks From Heaven
2 Kings 2:8 ESV
8 Then Elijah took his cloak and rolled it up and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.
2.Temporary/ Earthly Cloaks.
Genesis 3:21 (ESV) - And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them.
Genesis 25:25 (ESV) - The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau.

Joseph’s Robe

Genesis 37:3 ESV
3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors.
The robe of many colors was a sign of his father’s special affection, and it stirred up the jealous hatred of his brothers.
The Hebrew word, ketonet passim refers to several different types of clothing, including a generic robe or tunic, a priest’s robes, or the animal-skin garments God made for Adam and Eve.

The First Time Joseph’s Robe Was Torn.

Genesis 37:23 ESV
23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore.

The Second Time Joseph’s Robe Was Torn.

Potiphar’s wife tried repeatedly to seduce Joseph, but he steadfastly refused. One day she caught him by his garment. He squirmed out of it and fled, leaving her holding it. He lost his coat but saved his character and eventually gained a crown.
Genesis 39:12-13 (ESV) - She caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house,

Your Own Cloak Has to be Torn to Wear the Mantle.

Matthew 27:35 (ESV) - And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots.
“I believe these are people joined to me in ministry who can get people ready for the mantles they are called to carry. The mantles waiting to be dispersed don’t change. They are heavenly and they are divine. When we speak of something being tailored, we are speaking of the one called to carry the mantle. In other words, the tailoring is not done on the mantle; it is done on the person called to carry it. We must be changed, altered, and prepared to fit the mantle, not the mantle to fit us. This is why so often mantles are not given and received. We want the mantle to change to fit us, when it is we who must be changed to fit the mantle.” - Robert Henderson
The higher you go the more you grow!
The higher you go in the spirit realm you will outgrow your clothes.
New Cloaks represent the shedding away of your previous life.

The Third Mantle

Genesis 41:38 ESV
38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?”
A key indication that an individual is wearing the cloak from Heaven is because they are clothed with the Holy Ghost!
And every time man tries to remove it and new one comes upon you because it came from heaven and human hands can’t stop the force that a mantle brings!
Remember a mantle is a force!

Conclusion:

1 Kings 19:19 (ESV) - So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen in front of him, and he was with the twelfth. Elijah passed by him and cast his cloak upon him.
