I. Faith Defined (Hebrews 11:1-3)

Hebrews 11:1-3 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”

Spurgeon - “Faith is more mighty than any of our senses, or than all our senses combined.”

2 Corinthians 5:7 – “for we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Genesis 1:3 – “And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”

Genesis 1:6, 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26, 29

II. Examples of Faith (Hebrews 11:4-40)

Hebrews 11:37-38 – “They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.”

III. Results of Faith (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Hebrews 12:1-2 – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Hebrews 5:9 – “And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,”

Revelation 21:27 – “But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

Romans 6:14 – “For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.”

Hebrews 10:14 – “For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.”

Philippians 2:8 – “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Hebrews 13:12-13 – “So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured.”
