A Scattered Servant

Philip was part of those that had been dispersed from the persecution that began under Saul.
He still continued preaching the Gospel.
God will use your suffering to bring forth fruit for eternity.
John 12:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
Don’t be discouraged when you encounter hard times and trials. God may be using your trials to shape you and move you to a place of fruitfulness for His kingdom.
Philip was faithful to preach Christ.

Saved Samaritans and Scheming Simon

The Samaritans were considered outcasts. They were Gentiles brought in by Assyria after the fall of the Northern Kingdom. They had adopted some of the Jewish traditions, but it was mixed with pagan practises.
The message of the Gospel was delivered to them with miracles to affirm its authenticity. They believed and were baptized
Counterfeit Christianity subtly changes the grace of God into a work.
It seeks to profit off the power of God.
It seeks to personally gain from the free gift of God.
Simon’s problem was that he did not fully understand the nature of the Gospel. He was still bound in sin and poisoned by bitterness.
Salvation is by faith in Christ’s finished work alone. Beware of those who seek to gain from what God has freely given.

A Sincere Seeker

Philip was obedient to the prompting of the Spirit and preached Christ.
Genuine salvation is evidenced by repentance from sin and man’s work, and faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross.
