The Curse Of Loneliness

Mark 5:1-7

 

Introduction

 

A. Aloneness and Isolation are characteristics of Satan’s domain.

      This is the story of a demon possessed man. Driven from family, friends, society!

B. The meaning of “Alone”.

      Websters - “without company; solitary”

      Hebrew - “To disjoin, to divide; to separate”

 

C. The problem of loneliness.  

I. THE CAUSE OF LONELINESS.

A. Sin separates us from God.  Isaiah 59:2

      Examples:             Cain                       - Genesis 4:9-14                 - The cry of disappointment!

                                      Judas                     - Matthew 27:3-5 - The cry of desperation!

                                      Prodigal Son        - Luke 15: 11-32 - The cry of discovery!

                     

      Illustration:            The leprous - Levitucus 13:1-3; 42-46

B. Rejection of friends and loved ones.

      Job 16:19-21

C. It can be an outright attack of Satan - Luke 22:31-32

II. THE CRIPPLING EFFECT OF LONELINESS

A. It leads to a cycle of frustration.

                Feeling useless - Become cynical - Withdraw - Self- pity - Fear

B. Loneliness leads to a cast down spirit.  Psalm 42:9-11

III. JESUS TASTED AND TOOK THE CURSE OF LONELINESS FOR US!

            Matthew 27:45-46 - Forsaken by God!

IV. THE ULTIMATE PLACE OF LONELINESS.

            Matthew 18:9 & Mark 9:44

                Revelation 6:13-17

V. GOD’S REMEDY FOR LONELINESS. - Psalm 68:4-6
