Father, we come before you and ask you for Wisdom, we ask Holy Spirit that you would open our hearts and fill us. In Jesus Name

Message

Introduction

Kavanah

I am going to teach you some Hebrew. This is the word for Intent or Concentration. If you really want to hear what God is saying to you, you have to focus on what we are saying about Him. Okay?
Shema which means to listen and do. It is a command
Need to elaborate on this point, explain hearing and doing as the same thing.
Today we are going to be talking about listening to God!

Passage

Need 4 volunteers to read this
Deuteronomy 6:1–9 (NIV)
Love the Lord Your God
6 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
How can we hear from God? Can anyone give me examples?
Bible
Prayer
Prophesy either to you or from someone else

1. Bible

The Bible is God’s Word for us, God can and often does speak to us through His Word.
The Bible is one unified story that leads to Jesus, it is good for giving us wisdom that will lead us to God and to a good, full and free life!
2 Timothy 3:14–17 (NIV)
14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2. Prayer

James 5:13–16 (NIV)
The Prayer of Faith
13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NIV)
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

3. Prophesy

1 Corinthians 14:1–4 (NIV)
Intelligibility in Worship
14 Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy. 2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. 3 But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. 4 Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church.

PROPHECY An oral, divine message mediated through an individual that is directed at a person or people group and intended to elicit a specific response.

Prophesy can also come via dreams.

Response

Hearing from God is essential if we want to live full free Christian lives. We must make reading the Bible, prayer and the gifts a part of our Christian walk.
So today, who would like to experience the Holy Spirit and the gifts
who would like to begin to hear from God?

Closing Prayer

Father we ask that you would write everything that we have learned on our Hearts so that we would come to truly know and understand what you are saying to us.
